Highlights

Would you like to try snowshoeing for the first time? Then join me in this 1-day snowshoeing course in Washington state for beginners!

The activity will take place either at North Cascades, Mount Rainier, Hurricane Ridge (Olympic National Park) or Mount Baker (Snoqualmie National Forest). We will meet at one of these great locations in the USA, ride convenient for all participants.

This snowshoeing course in Washington state will give you the skills you need to execute your own trip! It will be much more than an escape to enjoy the beauty of the mountains.

Along this 8 hours course, you will learn the following:

    • To select and use the necessary gear for a snowshoeing day
    • Snow travel techniques
    • To plan, equip, organize and safely experience a snowshoeing day
    • Leave No Trace practices and winter ecology
    • To stay warm in a winter environment

First, we will meet for a pre-trip avalanche assessment. It will take place at a pre-established location. Then, we will discuss snowshoe technique and how to be safe in a winter environment. We will have lunch and we will continue with classes on navigation and winter ecology.

As this is a snowshoeing course for beginners, the plan is to ascend and descend to 300 metres or more throughout the day. Also, I will make longer stops to explain some important points about cold environment.

Along this 8 hours activity, we will stand in the snow for up to 20 minutes at a time. Then, we will have long periods of physical movement.

Our plan is to drive up to 2.30 hours or less to the location. We usually drive as caravan as all driving takes place on plowed roads to summit passes. Therefore, your vehicle will require chains.

So, once we are there, the fun will start! And I guarantee at the end of the day you will know how to organize a great and safe snowshoeing day!

Contact me and let’s start planning this unforgettable trip! I will be happy to answer your questions about the program. And if you are looking for a mountaineering experience, I offer a 4-day trip in Mount Rainier.

    About the Guide

Mick has traveled the world over in search of the perfect mountain experience. After working for years under other companies’ ethos and philosophies, nothing quite fit with his personal convictions and passions. In 2006 he set out on his own to make his vision of the holistic mountain experience a reality for anyone who shared his passion for the outdoors.

Having traveled all over the U.S. as the son of a railroad employee, Mick is accustomed to movement and new views. Mexico, Canada, Thailand, Taiwan, Europe, South America, Tanzania are some of the places and cultures that have shaped and influenced Mick.

Currently, Mick resides in Seattle, WA managing Kaf Adventures and continuing to hold the vision of this ever evolving company. He works tirelessly to continue to provide world-class experiences that provide knowledge and a greater perspective of the great outdoors.

Mick’s true passion is education. He has found a unique passion for educating aspiring instructors and guides in the U.S. You will find him outside helping new leaders gain confidence in their ability to make decisions in complex environments.

When he is not in the field (where he spends over 100 days a year) you can find him creating electronic music and making people dance. Mick has a habit of making those around him smile, and you might just wonder when he sleeps!

Mick is an American Mountain Guide Association certified Rock and Alpine Guide, SPI Program Provider, AMGA Instructor Team Member, LNT Master trainer, a Wilderness First Responder, a certified Level 3 AIARE avalanche graduate, an instructor for the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education, and speaks Spanish and a little Swahili.
