Welcome to the adventure of a lifetime: a unique 9-day ski touring and sailing trip in Spitzbergen, in Northern Norway!
Spitzbergen is the largest and only populated island in the Svalbard Archipelago. It is located at the confluence of the Arctic Ocean, the Barents Sea and the Greenland Sea. The island is 450 km long and has a maximum width of 225 km.
The island lies entirely within the Arctic Circle. That is why it’s one of the places where the sun can shine or disappear completely during the 24 hours of the day, depending on the time of year.
This is a really unique trip since few people have the chance of ski touring and sailing in such a remote area of the world. Our base will be a fantastic sailing boat, the Arctica 2, especially built for arctic waters. This boat will also allow us to reach incredible mountains along the fjords of the Spitzbergen’s west coast. We can ski in the Jarlbergland as well as the Atomfjella, just to name a few.
During these 9 days we will search for a new summit each day. And once we climb them, we’ll enjoy the best ski descents. Furthermore, we will ski in places where there are no traces of human life. They are 100% powder virgin lands.
If you want to know more details about the itinerary, please find this information at the bottom of the description. I have planned this amazing trip for the month of May. The departure date may vary slightly due to the flights schedule.
The technical and physical requirements to join me in this program are the following:
- Previous ski touring experience
- Good physical condition to overcome about 1500 m of climbing each day
- Good skiing techniques
- A great team spirit. Remember we will live together during a week!
Finally, remember that on this trip the maximum number of participants is 9 people. I recommend an early booking if you don’t want to miss this unique trip!
So, if you want to live an extraordinary experience, join me on this once in a lifetime adventure. Book your spot and get ready for this amazing trip to the Spitzbergen.
You can also take a look at all the other challenging and great ski trips I offer in different countries.
We will fly to Oslo, where we will spend the night in an airport hotel.

Ski touring and sailing adventures in Spitzbergen
We continue our journey via Tromso to Longyearbyen, 1200 km away from the north pole. The center of this town is small, but it has some bars, shops and guest houses. After our arrival we will move onto our home: the Arctica 2 sailboat.
Our first ski tour might be in the Isfjord only 1 hour by boat. After that, we will sail along the west coast (if weather and snow conditions help) and we’ll choose a different mountain every day.
After the beginning of May the sun will be out for 24 hours on Spitzbergen. So we won’t be depending on daytime for our ski touring itineraries. Sometimes, the evenings give us a special light with the sun shining very low above the horizon. After each skiing day we’ll return from the shoreline by a small boat back to our Arctica 2.
By the time we are back on board after a ski touring adventure, a nice smell of freshly cooked dinner will welcome us! With a glass of wine we’ll talk about the adventures of the day and share a great moment together.
Return to Oslo
We will leave our beloved sailing boat and fly back to Oslo, where you can spend another night before flying back home.
