FAQs: Splitboarding in Canada

What should I know about Splitboarding Canada?

The Canadian Rocky Mountains cover a small but significant portion of southwestern Alberta, which is where all splitboarding trips in the province take place.

Away from Banff National Park and the Wapta Traverse, which are two of the most popular splitboarding destinations, there are plenty of other incredible spots to explore as well.

Chief among them is Jasper National Park, which sits just to the north of Banff. Heading up to the summit of Mount Brazeau or Pyramid Mountain are two of the most popular options in the park. However, there are plenty of other parts to explore as the park is massive and full of a diverse array of mountains and valleys.

Why should I choose Canada for my Splitboarding adventure?

Beautiful Banff

The main attraction in mostly flat Alberta is without a doubt Banff National Park. Canada’s oldest park is full of gorgeous scenery, offers plenty of wide open spaces – which are perfect for avoiding the crowds – and promises excellent snow conditions for splitboarding ascents and awesome snowboarding descents afterwards.

Stunning scenery

Regardless of where you head in Alberta, one thing is certain: you are bound to experience plenty of gorgeous and incredible scenery. Any splitboarding trip will take place in the mountains and from Canmore to Jasper National Park, there are plenty of mountains, forests and gorgeous alpine scenery to be discovered.

Avoid the crowds

Alberta is a big place, which means there are plenty of places to head in order to avoid the wintertime crowds. Heading out on a splitboarding trip is the perfect way to get off-piste and escape the busy resort slopes while enjoying the benefits of unspoiled powder and uninterrupted winter scenery as far as the eye can see.

What can I expect from the weather during my Splitboarding trip in Canada?

During the winter, average daily temperatures range from -5 ºC to -15 ºC in Alberta. Snow also falls quite frequently, with between 30 and 40 centimeters falling each month.

That was a wonderful ski-tour experience. Everything was well organized, and there was good communication. The choice of daily spots was well planned based on avalanche safety and natural beauty. Special thanks to local guides (Jason and Tamara) for all their efforts and passion, which made this trip a very special experience. I definitely look forward to do another ski-tour trip next year or summer adventure with Jeff or his guides.
