Sitting high up in the Dinaric Alps, in northern Herzegovina, Čvrsnica makes for the perfect spot for a 1+ day snowshoeing adventure!
The 2,228 meter high peak offers spectacular views out over the surrounding mountains and provides the perfect snowshoeing challenge for all fairly physically fit participants.
Our adventure begins after we meet up at your accommodation in Mostar. From here, we will head to Blidinje Nature Park and begin snowshoeing through the endemic Munika Pine forest and open valley that sit at the foot of the mountain peak, providing spectacular views of it.
Overall, the climb up to the summit and back will take about 7 to 8 hours and requires a fairly high level of endurance. However, the views from the top are spectacular and well-worth the effort of climbing all the way up there.
After descending the mountain, we will stop for a traditional Herzegovinan dinner at a national restaurant before returning to Mostar.
For those who decide they cannot simply leave so much of this pristine national park unexplored and want to extend the trip, we can instead continue hiking a small circuit through the national park, staying at various mountain huts along the way.
This will allow us to see the park from all angles while we explore this pristine wilderness in the remote reaches of Herzegovina.

Welcome to your Herzegovina Hiking Adventure. My name is Miroslav Mihalj, born in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. I am the current president of the Croatian Mountaineering Association “Prenj 1933 Mostar”, certified Mountain Guide and Rescuer and I offer hiking, snowshoeing and ski touring tours around this beautiful region.
As mountain hiker I am proud to have climbed some of the highest peaks in Europe and Balkans as well as local peaks in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which I have climbed numerous times both in winter and summer.
I enjoy nature, that feeling of freedom and serenity the mountains offer. They are a place to find yourself and push your boundaries. I’m lucky to have been born in a place surrounded by beautiful and intact mountain ranges hiding the most exciting nature my country has to offer.

We really enjoyed our trip with our guide Mijo. He was extremely good in communicating at WhatsApp and very flexible. We ended our trip in a beautiful river with amazing surrounding view. I can highly recommend to do some hiking in the mountains around Mostar, really worth it.

Due to lack of snow the trip became a hike instead of a snowshoeing trip. Nevertheless it was an awesome experience in pristine mountain area. Miroslav was great. We didn’t meet another sole the full 22km and the lunch stop at the mountain hut was excellent.

Miroslav was a fantastic guide. We wanted to see Outlaw’s Gate up Čvrsnica but didn’t know where to begin, including how to get to the trailhead. Miroslav picked us up from Mostar and took us up to the top. Friendly, knowledgable and funny, we always felt at ease with his expertise on the route. I enjoyed my time with Miroslav a lot! He is a great person and an even greater tour guide! He is very knowledgeable about the whole mountain area around Mostar (and more) and very professional. He made me feel comfortable the whole time and adapted the tour spontaneously to my needs and wishes, which I appreciated a lot! So at the end we even did a beautiful via ferrata which was not the original plan and I loved it so much! He also brings local food a is so knowledgeable about history and other interesting things about Bosnia and Herzegowina. We had good conversations and a great time together! Thank you Miroslav!!:)
