Description

If you wish to go on a ski tour in a region that is largely unexplored, join me on this amazing ski-touring in Kazakhstan. For 9 days, we’ll explore the north-western part of the Tian Shan Mountains, in the south-eastern region of Kazakhstan and have a great time!

The ski area is easy to access and lies just 3 hours from the capital city of Almaty. You’ll be skiing in a spectacular area above clouds, on peaks as high as 4000 m on powder snow. The peaks offer untouched terrain, ideal for backcountry skiing. Alongside this, you’ll also get to experience the unique Kazakh culture.

We’ll begin the trip in Almaty. There are many direct flights to the capital city from Moscow and Istanbul. Upon arrival, we’ll take you to your hotel in a local ski resort and here, you’ll spend the next 3 days at 2300 meters.

On the first day, we’ll brief you about the trip, check your equipment and refresh your skiing skills. The next two days are reserved for acclimatization. Taking ski lifts, we’ll get to an altitude of about 4,000 m, come back and stay in our comfortable hotels.

On the fourth day, we’ll move to a high glacial camp at 3500m. Here we’ll be staying in barrels left by Soviet and Kazakh soldiers. And don’t worry, we’ll stay warm and dry as we’ll be using a wooden stove for heating. The next 5 days will be spent here, touring the glaciers and skiing in untouched gorgeous terrain.

Depending upon the group condition, it is quite possible to do up to 2-3 runs per day and to gain around 1000-2000 m. On the last day, we’ll ski down to Almaty and spent the evening exploring the cultural capital of Central Asia.

Regarding difficulty, keep in mind that it is a demanding trip that requires you to have advanced to expert level skiing skills. Also, since we’ll be gaining at least 1200 vertical meters per day, do ensure that you are in excellent physical condition.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
