I designed this program for those who want to achieve an ascent in one of the satellite peaks around Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, in Los Glaciares National Park. The ascent is placed in the Cerro Solo (2121 m) for its characteristics and beauty, as well as for its location that permits a unique view of the whole area. Ascents are organized from the headquarters. We check the equipment and accord day, time and place of meeting.
Cerro Solo is a stratovolcano that lies on the border of Chile and Argentina, west of Ojos del Salado, with 9 eruptive centers.
I propose the following itinerary for this trip.
Day 1 | El Chaltén – Camp Thorwood
We depart from El Chaltén, walking along the Fitz Roy river until the west up to Thorwood Camp, nearby Laguna Torre. Distance: 10 km, 2 hours walking.
We practice Basic Glacier Expedition Techniques. Then, we set camp in height. CHT-Thorwood Drop in ascent: 200 m. Thorwood Camp in height: 950 m.
Day 2 | Thorwood Camp – Vivac in height
We hike up to the foot of the glacier. We practice Basic Glacier Expedition Techniques. Then we camp in height.
Day 3 | Summit and return to El Chalten
Finally, today is the glacier ascent. Then we descend and hike back to El Chaltén, where the trip ends.
Does this program sound interesting? Then please contact me! We will make a plan and leave together on this adventure.
And why not combining this trip with one of the many others I offer? For example, in the same region we can hike in Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre.
