Would you like to experience a beautiful and remote land on a unique outdoor adventure week? Then join us on this amazing Faroe Island Hiking and Sailing experience!
The adventure begins at Vágar International Airport, where we will meet and transfer you to your accommodation in Sandavágur. From then onward, every day will be full of surprises and we will get to hike to amazing cliffs, waterfalls, and lakes, as well as through off-the-beaten-path trails. We will also go sailing from island to island and climb to the highest peak in the Faroes, the Slættaratindur (880m), from where we will catch breathtaking views of the whole island. A lighthouse, colorful fishing villages, harbors, and mythological creatures will also be part of our adventure! You can find a detailed itinerary below.
Furthermore, the boat that we will sail in is also very special. The Norðlýsið (“Northern Light”) was built on the Faroe Islands and was used to fish herring in the 50s and 60s. It was then remodeled in the 80s and is an iconic boat on the island, perfect for our adventure. In terms of accommodation, we will spend some days on the boat, and others in guesthouses.
In terms of fitness, you will need to be in good shape to join. However, technical skills are not required for this trip. We will be there every step of the way to help and guide you.
So, are you ready to go on an unforgettable Faroe Islands adventure? Then contact us today and let’s start making plans!
Meeting point
Meeting with the guides at the Vágar international airport and transfer to the accommodation in Sandavágur. Briefing about the trip and welcome dinner at the Fiskastykkið restaurant*.
*Dinner at the Fiskastykkið restaurant not included.
After an energetic breakfast, we’ll leave our accommodation to do our first hike to the cliffs & lake of Sørvágsvatn and its impressive Bøsdalafossur waterfall. We will also hike up to Trælanípa cliff, a spectacular viewpoint from where we can see amazing 360o views of this area. In the afternoon, we will return to Sandavágur to connect with our next hike to Gásadalur, one of the most isolated villages of the Faroe Islands, where we will find one of the most beautiful waterfalls, Múlafossur, which falls down to the sea from the cliffs. To do this, we will hike from Bøur through the historic postmen trail along the west coast of the island of Vágar.
Accommodation in Guesthouse. * Dinner not included.
We will sail from the island of Vágar and once we’ve disembarked, we will hike an “off the beaten path” trail accompanied by a Mykines local guide. On the way to Mykines, we will hike in hidden, unknown, and not very accessible places that will delight us with their incredible beauty.
Accommodation in Guesthouse.
* Dinner not included.
We will wake up with our eyes looking to the Streymoy Island, where we will arrive aboard the Norðlýsið. We will travel by RIB boat to Saksun, an old Viking village that connects with the sea through a lake that was once a natural harbor for its inhabitants. From Saksun, we will begin our hike that will cross the north of the island from west to east, arriving at Tjørnuvík, a place where everything is calm and the waves collide against the cliffs close to its beautiful beach. From here, we will travel again by RIB boat to Eiði’s harbor where our sailboat will be waiting for us.
Accommodation aboard the Norðlýsið sailboat.
We will wake up on the island of Eysturoy to climb the highest peak of the Faroes, the Slættaratindur (880m). From its summit, we will have the best views of the Faroe Islands and if the day is clear, we can also see the icy peaks of the Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland, about 565km away. We will descend from Slættaratindur towards the village of Gjógv, with its beautiful colorful houses and its natural harbor used by fishermen to dock their boats for centuries. After enjoying this incredible place, we will take the RIB boat to return to the Norðlýsið, which will sail to Fuglafjørður, one of the quietest fjords of the island where we will dock to watch the sunset and enjoy a delicious Faroese dinner and a wonderful evening aboard the Norðlýsið sailboat.
The sunlight will awaken us in Fuglafjørður and after an appetizing breakfast on board, we head to the island of Kalsoy. We will disembark at the harbor of Syðradalur and began to hike north towards the Kallur lighthouse at the northwest corner of the island. On our way, we will walk through several villages, such as Mikladalur and Trøllanes, where we will stop to enjoy its incredible landscapes, the brutal sound of its waves, and the presence of the mythological Selkies. After this long but unforgettable day, we will return to the harbor by vehicle to embark again in the Norðlýsið, where we will spend the night.
We will wake up in Klaksvík’s harbour, the second largest city in the Faroe Islands and that continues focused in its great fishing tradition. We will leave in the Norðlýsið towards the island of Nólsoy on the way to the south and on our route, we will make a stop to fish from our sailboat, so today we will have fresh fish to eat on board 😉 Once docked at Nólsoy’s harbour, we will go down to the mainland to hike and explore this beautiful island. We will return to the ship around noon to eat and then head towards Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. This afternoon we will be able to enjoy the charm of its nordic streets, the colors of their houses, and the always welcoming character of the Faroese people.
Accommodation in Guesthouse.
From Tórshavn, we will be transferred by vehicle to the Vágar airport.

Tour Operator
Amarok Adventures does not have an office of its own. We are guides and we work as such, in each destination, travelling & exploring. We are nomads. For many years we have worked in tourism, and we have decided that we do not like to work in a cubicle, so we prefer our office to be from a house in the Icelandic valleys to a beach on the island of Palawan, in the Philippines.
Our team is made up of a multidisciplinary group of guides that have been trained over the years and experience in extreme places enjoying with the joy of a child. Each guide has developed a specific trip, being a specialist in the destination. Let us show you each country with our eyes, because with us, you are not only in good hands, we believe you are in the best hands and we are excited to have the opportunity to show it to you.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
