The gorges of Cuenca have become a true climbing paradise that attracts climbers from all around the world. Almost 30 sectors spread out along the Júcar, Huécar and Valdecabras limestone gorges, packed with slightly overhanging 15 to 40 m routes, where finger pockets and crimpy holds alternate on orange and grey walls.

The climbing style is unique for each route as you will rarely find two similar routes in the same wall. Expect routes to be technical, physical, crimpy and often with bouldery sections. Cracks can also be found.

Crag orientations and Cuenca’s continental dry climate allow for all-year-round climbing, though the best seasons are spring and autumn. The nearby crags of Entrepeñas, Valeria and Priego enhance your selection posibilities.

Cuenca is a popular medieval tourist town built up on the cliffs of two stunning gorges. Due to its proximity to Madrid, it’s easily accessible on public transportation. Wandering around the old part of the city (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO) is totally recommended. Due to its privileged natural surrounding, history and popular gastronomy there is a large variety of accommodations available.

This trip is available is suitable for beginners as well as experienced climbers, but please note you need some previous climbing experience to join this program.

This program is an amazing opportunity to discover one of the best sport climbing venues in Europe, one of the very few world class climbing destinations which can be reached on foot from the city. Mountain biking, kayaking or hiking can be an excellent choice on rest-days.

Mountain Guide

Born in a climbing family it was a matter of time for me to fall deeply in love with anything that had to do with rock climbing, ranging from bouldering to big walls and specially trad climbing, enjoying every single aspect of this beautiful sport that I live as a lifestyle. I began climbing at an early age with my brother in La Pedriza, a huge granite range with 4000+ routes close to our home in the nearby mountains in Madrid. Known mainly for its bold slab climbing, features world class climbs on sort of styles: cracks, overhanging walls, multi-pitch, aid... all gathered in these iconic climbing paradise.

I soon began to travel throughout Europe and the US, exploring also Morocco, Turkey or Madagascar, not only for climbing or putting up new routes, but also to experience different cultures and getting to know wonderful people all around the world.

It's been five years since I decided to turn my passion into a career. In this time I have combined working 2 years as the specialist for climbing matters in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park with training Rock Guide aspirants at CFEM, one of the spanish certified Rock Guiding Teaching Centers. I also had time to enjoy teaching and training people at the climbing wall, learning a lot from every one of my trainees. And of course, I had time for guiding people on the most beautiful climbs, making people dreams come true and making sure the time we spend together becomes unique.

Nowadays I run a small guiding company called Compañía de Guías de la Zona Centro with my two partners Dani and Aitor, nestled at Manzanares El Real, the entrance gate to La Pedriza. From there we're happy to share all the possibilities that this region has to offer, ranging from hiking, through skiing and alpine climbing, to rock climbing and canyoning.

He is great mt guide. I had perfect time with him.

Hi !! It was a great experience to do outdoor rock climbing for the first time. The guide was really nice and experienced, the location was beautiful and according to our skills and the organization upfront with the chat system worked super well! Glad to return in the future!

Great moment spent with Palan, not only a guiding pro and an outstanding climber but also a nice and kind human being. We had a super experience in the superb scene of La Pedriza, which is just 50' away from Madrid. Highly recommended!!!

I did three multi pitch climbs with Palan. We spent an overnight in a hut in the alpine. I often climb with guides, Palan is by far the best balance of calm, diligence and friendliness. Safety was never a concern, his gear placements and belays were perfect for a 100kg climber. I will be using Palan in the future for more of Europe. 10/10
