Description

Enjoy the best features of a solid ski touring experience in the hidden gem of Areches Beaufort in Savoie, east of Lyon! This guided program puts you in some of the best snow in the shadow of Mont Blanc without any of the hassle of lines and crowds for untouched snow, easy access, and an all-around memorable skiing experience in the French Alps!

Located near Lyon and nestled in the Beaufortain Range of the Alps, this small village is known for its remarkable cheese and its mostly-undiscovered snow-savvy ski culture. Without the frills of modern resorts, the basic appeal for this town is its mountain heritage, which it takes seriously, from family-owned shops and inns to the surrounding rolling mountains. It has hosted the Pierra Menta for more than 30 years, which is a grueling ski mountaineering competition on par with the Tour de France.

If you wanted to immerse yourself in a traditional village for a day or more of solid ski touring, then this is the program for you. We will enjoy a full day of premium snow conditions, from deep snowpack (thanks to its north-facing position) to high quality powder. You can experience a number of exciting off-piste runs with steep drop-ins, tree lines, and thrilling cutbacks.

It is also a great location for greenhorns, specializing in safe and dedicated routes for beginners. The Cuvy is a great example of this, encompassing a five-kilometer skin up of 755 meters before skiing back down. This is one of my favorite areas to ski tour and I will ensure you have a safe, fulfilling, and completely fun time exploring the untouched snow.

Other great options include the Grand Mont (2,700m) and Point du Dard (2,489m), both at a high enough elevation not guarantee pristine snow pack and far enough away from the crowds so you can admire the surround Alps on a personal level.

All ski touring levels are welcome, though you should be in good shape and have enough skiing proficiency to ski safely and comfortably in the backcountry for a full day or more.
