The Golden Circle in Iceland, Day trip from Reykjavik with tour of the Leiðarendi Cave

We’ll start at Þingvellir which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Iceland’s first parliament, Althing, was formed here back in the year 930 so it holds important historical significance. It’s also geologically a really interesting place as there are two tectonic plates that meet there to create interesting landscapes.

From there we’ll move on to the Haukadalur Valley to see the impressive  Geysir and Strokkur geysers. The last stop on the circuit will be the breathtaking Gullfoss Waterfall.

For the caving portion of this awesome day out, you’ll head to Leiðarendi Cave. This was a lava tube that was formed thousands of years ago from thermal activity. It’s 900 meters long and has a couple of tight spots which you will need to crouch down to walk through. There is even a bit of light crawling. It’s great fun. In the cave, you’ll get to see mesmerizing stalactites and shelves and learn all about the geology of the region.
