Located in the Caribbean among the Greater Antilles archipelago, the Dominican Republic shares an island with the Republic of Haiti to the west. A hugely popular hotspot among the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic is home to a long and jagged coastline as well as the rugged and mountainous center. The capital, and largest city, on the island is Santo Domino, with a population of almost 3 million people.
The island receives a tropical rainforest climate in the lower regions, with a more arid climate and cooler temperatures in the mountains.
