Join me for a spectacular day ascending **Peña Foratata** in the **Aragonese Pyrenees**.

Peña Foratata is a calcareous mass located in **Sallent de Gállego** and **El Formigal**. It is the iconic landmark for **Alto Gállego**. Even though it is not the highest peak in the area (it reaches a height of 2,320 meters), it offers stunning views of all the important surrounding mountains: **Infiernos, Algas, Palas, Telera y Sierra de Partacua, Culibillas, Ferraturas and Picos de Soba.**

We’ll meet at El Formigal and slowly ascend through mountain meadows, the karstic landscapes of **O Forato** and black pine forests. Then, the road will give way to a rocky landscape as we get closer to the summit and then we’ll go through an impressive cornice on the south wall. Finally, a little climbing will take us to the peak.

The whole route is 700 meters long. Though it is not necessary to have previous experience, it is recommended. You will need to have a good fitness level. Also, make sure to review the list  of necessary equipment for the trip below.
