Situated in the heart of the Pakistani Himalayan Mountains, at the very north of the country, Spantik Peak is a remote but popular high altitude destination.

Rising to 7,027 meters in elevation, the locals refer to Spantik as the Golden Pillar, for the incredible golden-yellow hue the mountain turns during the sunset. Over the course of four weeks, we will make our way from Islamabad up to the mountain. Along the way, we will enjoy an incredibly scenic approach through verdant valleys surrounded by snowcapped peaks. Afterward, expect a long and challenging ascent through glaciated valleys and up behind the peak.

The plan will be to ascend Spantik from the north, which is known as the normal route. This does not require much technical mountaineering know-how (in fact, Spantik is considered the easiest 7,000 meter high peak to climb anywhere in the world), but is still very physically challenging. After a grueling, but rewarding climb, we’ll enjoy the phenomenal views from the top before beginning our descent and returning to Islamabad.

After meeting up in Islamabad, we will either fly to Gilgit, or if we are unable to fly, we will spend the day driving to Chilas. We will spend the night in a local hotel.

Rawalpindi to Chilas

After waking up at 7 am, we will continue driving to the Tato Village, from which we will gear up and begin hiking for about two hours on a fairly easy grade.

Chilas to Fairy Meadows

We will trek for two hours until we reach Beyal Camp. After that we have the day free, with the option to climb Jillipur Peak (5,206m) or Buldar Peak (5,602m).

We will complete the trek early in the morning, arriving at Nanga Parbat Base Camp. Afterwards, we will hike back into the Fairy Meadows, where we will enjoy a traditional dinner, as well as music and dancing.

Upon arrival at Islamabad International Airport, participants will be transferred to their hotel. This day will be dedicated to free time, allowing participants to relax and recuperate from their journey.

Arrival at Islamabad 

On the second day, we will begin with a flight from Islamabad airport to Skardu, which will take approximately 1 hour. From Skardu, we will drive to the Ghanche district of Baltistan. Our journey will include short stops at Thorgo Pari, the meeting point of the Shayok and Indus Rivers.

Upon reaching Yugo village, we will enjoy a delicious traditional lunch. Afterward, participants will have two optional activities to choose from. The first option is a trek to Kharfaq Lake, which will take approximately 5 hours for a round trip. Alternatively, participants can opt for a cultural walk through the village streets of Yugo.

In the late afternoon, we will proceed with a drive to Khaplu. Upon arrival, we will check into the hotel. Participants can visit the Khaplu Fort Museum and explore the organic garden. In the event of a flight cancellation due to weather conditions, an alternative plan will be implemented, and we will travel from Islamabad to Khaplu via the Karakoram Highway.

Skardu and Khaplu Tour

We will start the day with an early morning hike up to Toqsikhar. Afterward, we will visit the famous Chaqchan mosque.

Following the visit, we will drive to Macholo Valley, which will take approximately one hour. In Macholo Valley, participants will have some free time to soak in the view of Masherbrum Peak.

We will then drive back to Sailing. Lunch will be served at the Sailing fish farm. We will then return to Khaplu. In the afternoon, we will visit Khanqah-e Maula, a historic religious site. Later, we will move to Hanjor Broq to witness the enchanting sunset.

Visit Macholo Valley

We'll embark on a scenic drive from Khaplu to Shigar Valley, with several brief stops at captivating points of interest for photography enthusiasts.

Upon reaching Shigar, we will visit the renowned Sarfaranga cold desert. Following that, we will proceed to Shigar Fort for a delightful lunch. As the evening approaches, we will hike up to the old fort, offering a mesmerizing vantage point to witness the sunset over the majestic Shigar River.

Hike in Shigar Valley

We will dedicate an entire day to exploring Skardu and its surrounding areas. Our first stop will be the Shangri-La resort, where participants can opt for a boating experience. From there, we will drive to upper Kachura and take a leisurely walk through the local houses, fields, and trees. After a pleasant 20-minute stroll, we will reach upper Kachura Lake, offering free time to explore the surroundings and indulge in boating activities.

Next, we will drive to Soq Valley, a beautiful valley located near upper Kachura to enjoy a fishing excursion followed by lunch. Afterward, we will return to Skardu and hike to Nansoq village, which will take approximately 50 minutes.

After bidding farewell to Nansoq village, we will hike back to Skardu, another 50-minute journey. Upon reaching Skardu, we will visit Skardu Bazaar. In the evening, we will drive back to Shigar for an overnight stay.

Our journey continues as we drive to Gilgit via the mesmerizing Deosai Plains, which are among the world's highest plateaus. En route, we will have the opportunity to visit various attractions, including Manthal Rock Budha, Sadpara Lake, Ali Malik Top, Bara Pani, and the Sheosar Lake.

Journey through the Astore Valley, passing through small villages. Continuing on the Karakoram Highway, we will make short stops, including a viewpoint to admire the majestic Nanga Parbat and the junction point of the three highest mountain ranges in the world.

Upon arrival in Gilgit, we will check into the hotel, relax and unwind. This will be an excellent opportunity to explore the city at your own pace, or simply enjoy a moment of tranquility after the day's adventures.

Explore Gilgit 

After enjoying breakfast, we will travel to Hunza. Our first stop will be at the Berano suspension bridge, one of the oldest suspension bridges in the region. Continuing our drive, we will pause briefly at the Danyor tunnel, another noteworthy landmark.

As we proceed, we will make quick stops at various points for some photography sessions. These include the collision point of two tectonic plates, the ancient silk route viewpoint, and the Rakaposhi viewpoint.

Passing through small villages in the Nagar and Hunza valleys, we will have the opportunity to experience the authentic village life of the region.

Upon reaching Karimabad, we will check into our hotel and have some free time to relax. In the evening, we will go on a pleasant walk for approximately 40 minutes along the Samarqand kohl water channel.

Later, we will drive to Dongo Das for an incredible stargazing experience. Finally, we will return to our hotel for a restful night's stay.

Trip to Hunza

We will start with a visit to the 800-year-old Baltit Fort, a cultural treasure that can be reached with a pleasant 30-minute walk. After, we will go to the vibrant Karimabad Bazaar, a bustling marketplace with handicrafts, gemstones, and delicious dry fruits.

Next, we will venture to the Altit Fort, which boasts a remarkable history spanning over 900 years. We will explore its fascinating architecture and cultural significance. For a traditional lunch experience, we will visit the Kha Basi Café, a charming establishment owned by Serena Hotels and run by local women.

After lunch, we will visit the music school in Altit, where talented local children learn and play traditional music. You too, will be welcome to join in and practice playing regional musical instruments.

In the afternoon, we will visit Ganish village, the oldest settlement in Hunza. As the day progresses, we will drive to Duikar, situated at an elevation of 2,800 meters. A 15-minute hike will lead us to one of the world's most breathtaking sunset viewpoints. Enjoy a bird's-eye view of the entire Hunza and Nagar valleys, along with splendid vistas of seven magnificent mountain peaks towering above 7,000 meters.

Finally, we will drive back to our hotel in Karimabad.

Tour in Altit and Duikar

Today's itinerary takes us on an exciting drive to Passu, traversing through several small villages in upper Hunza. Our first stop will be at Atabad Lake, where we will have the opportunity to enjoy an engaging boating experience.

Continuing our journey, we will reach Gulmit village, where we will walk through the orchids. We will also visit an old house and a music school.

A short hike awaits us to the Ondra Fort. Known as Pakistan's highest and longest stairs, this community-based tourism initiative in Gulmit village offers panoramic views and insights into the local traditions and history. You will then have some free time to see the Passu cones and the beauty of upper Hunza.

Later in the afternoon, we will drive to Borith Lake, a captivating lake in upper Hunza known for its abundant birdlife. Our journey then takes us to Passu, where we will stop and relax for the afternoon. For those seeking an extra adventure, an optional evening trek to the Passu Glacier beside the stream awaits. This approximately 2-hour trek offers an opportunity to get up close to the glacier and be enchanted by its grandeur. We will conclude our trek at the Glacier Breeze Restaurant, where we can savor a cup of tea or coffee and indulge in the famous apricot cake.

If time permits, we may also have the opportunity to participate in a cultural event or witness a spring festival in upper Hunza.

Finally, we will drive back to our hotel in Karimabad, where we will spend the night.

Passu Hike

After a hearty breakfast, we'll go towards to Hoper Valley. Along the way, we will make a stop at Nagar Khas, a village in Nagar Valley. We will also explore Nagar Fort.

Continuing our expedition, we will proceed to Hoper Village. From there we will hike to Hoper Glacier, which will take approximately two hours.

Following our glacier adventure, we will drive to Minapin Village. Here, we will savor a delectable traditional lunch known as Gurkun Karahi. While we enjoy our meal, a local historian will provide a brief but fascinating account of the region's rich history.

Afterward, we will embark on an exciting journey in local jeeps to reach KHO. As the evening approaches, we will begin our return journey, driving back to Karimabad, where we will conclude our eventful day.

 Hoper and Minapin Villages Expedition

Our next destination will be Khanabad village, situated in lower Hunza.We will be warmly welcomed by a host family who will graciously guide us through the daily routines and activities of the village people.

During our time in Khanabad, we will have the opportunity to explore fruit orchards, stroll along the charming streets, and engage with the locals, including talented artisans and knowledgeable historians. As part of the village experience, we will also be treated to a delightful traditional lunch, prepared and shared by our hospitable host family.

Additionally, we will have the chance to partake in meditation or yoga sessions amidst the serene surroundings of the village.

In the afternoon, we will bid farewell to Khanabad village and return to Gilgit. Before reaching our destination, we will make a stop to visit Kargah Budha, a renowned site that houses a Buddha statue dating back to the 7th century.

With our visit to Kargah Budha complete, we will continue our drive back to Gilgit.

Khanabad Cultural Experience

Depart from Gilgit on a 1-hour flight to Islamabad. Upon arrival, we'll transfer to the hotel and enjoy lunch before embarking on a sightseeing tour.

In case of flight cancellation, journey from Gilgit to Islamabad by road via the Karakoram Highway. Take advantage of short stops along the way to explore and appreciate the stunning landscapes.

Day 13 serves as a contingency day to account for any potential delays. In the event that weather conditions prevent us from flying, we will make our way to Islamabad by road. However, if we are able to proceed with the scheduled flight from Gilgit to Islamabad, we will have the opportunity to explore the capital city and its attractions. Your leader will provide guidance on the available options for the day, which may include a captivating visit to the Taxila museum and its archaeological sites.

After breakfast, we will arrange for your transfer from the hotel to the airport, ensuring a smooth journey as you prepare to board your international flights.

Upon arrival at Islamabad International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel. This day is designated for relaxation and recuperation after the journey. In the afternoon, you can opt for a city tour, exploring notable attractions such as the magnificent Faisal Mosque, the iconic Pakistan Monument, and the cultural delights of the Lok Virsa museum.

Fly from Islamabad airport to Skardu (1-hour flight). Free day for sightseeing and necessary purchasing from Skardu Bazar. We will visit Manthal Rock Budha, Kharpocho fort, Organic village and Skardu Bazar. Or In case of flight cancellation due to weather, we will drive from Islamabad via Karakoram Highway with short stops at various touristic spots.

Travel to Skardu

On this day we'll drive to Khaplu, passing through charming small villages in the Ghanche district. Along the way, we'll make short stops at the meeting point of the Shayok & Indus Rivers, as well as Thorgo Pari. Our journey will also take us to the village of Yugo, where we'll enjoy a traditional lunch and take a cultural walk through its streets.

In the late afternoon, we'll continue our drive to Khaplu and check into the hotel. In the evening, we'll have some leisure time to explore the Khaplu Fort Museum and the organic garden.

Skardu to Khaplu

After enjoying breakfast, we'll drive from Khaplu to Kanday village, which will take approximately 2 hours. From there, we'll begin hiking towards Mingulo Broq, situated at an elevation of 3500 meters.

Upon reaching Mingulo Broq, we'll have some free time to explore the natural beauty of the area. The afternoon will be free for further exploration, allowing us to discover more of nature's wonders at our own pace.

Tour in Kanday

On Day 5, we'll embark on a beautiful hike from Mingulo Broq to Nangma Valley. The trail will lead us through lush green fields, following alongside a glacial stream.

After reaching our destination, we'll enjoy lunch at the campsite. The remainder of the day, you will have the opportunity to explore the surroundings.

Nangma Valley Hike

Today will be a free day in Nangma Valley, offering you the flexibility to choose how to spend the day. An optional hike to the Amin Brakk base camp, located at an altitude of 4500 meters, is available for those seeking adventure and stunning views.

Wake up early to witness the mesmerizing sunrise, creating a captivating atmosphere in the valley, and take a moment to visit the nearby glacial stream. For those seeking a bit of adventure, you will be able to test your scrambling skills on the nearby rocks. Nature enthusiasts will have the opportunity to spot numerous species of Karakoram birds and admire the vibrant array of flowers that grace the valley.

Free Day at Nangma Valley

Today, we will trek back from the captivating Nangma Valley to Kanday village. From there, we will drive back to Khaplu and check into our hotel. Free rest of day to explore the village.

Trek back to Kanday, Khaplu

Following breakfast, we will travel from Khaplu to Thalay Valley, a journey of approximately 2 hours. Then, we will visit the Daltir village, take a leisurely walk through its streets and interact with the friendly locals.

We will then continue our drive to the Thalay Broq campsite, where we will set up camp. Then, in the afternoon, we will go for a short hike.

Start the day with breakfast at Thalay Broq. Then, we'll begin our trek through lush green meadows, surrounded by the majestic Karakoram peaks where we will have the pleasure of meeting Balti Shepherds. Once we're at our destination, we will set up camps.

In the afternoon, you will have the chance to take part in a botanic walk.

Explore Dubla Khan

Today, we will trek from Dubla Khan to High Camp. Once there we will have some free time to explore the area. This includes the opportunity to visit the nearby glacial stream, challenge themselves with scrambling on nearby rocks, or embark on a quest to spot the diverse bird species and vibrant flowers that thrive in the Karakoram region.

Arrival at High Camp

Our trek today will lead us to the summit of Thalay La. Standing at an impressive altitude of 4800 meters, this vantage point offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys, including the Masherbrum range, Mango Gusor, and numerous towering peaks.

After admiring the panorama, we will begin our descent towards Camp 3, located at an elevation of 3750 meters on the Shigar side.

Summit Thalay La

Descend through pastures to reach the Shigar Valley. Check into the hotel in Shigar and enjoy free time in the afternoon. Visit the historic Shigar Fort and explore its fascinating museum.

Drive from Shigar to Skardu airport, which takes approximately one hour. Once you arrive at the airport, you will board a short one-hour flight to Islamabad. Upon, landing, you will be transferred to your hotel. Enjoy lunch and explore the captivating sights of Islamabad.

We have included a contingency day in case of any unforeseen delays. In the event that the flight is canceled, we will make arrangements for road travel to Islamabad. After breakfast at the hotel, we will arrange for your transfer to the airport for your international flights.

After breakfast at the hotel, we will drive to Hushe Valley. Along the way, we will pass through small villages and witness the diverse cultural heritage of the Ganche District. We will make short stops at the meeting point of the Shayok and Indus Rivers, Thorong La Pass, and the Sailung Glacier. Drive to Hushe Valley

Start the trek from Hushe village, passing through the beautiful Hushe Valley. Set up camp in Dumsum (3400m). In the afternoon, go for an optional hike to the Aling glacier (1-2 hours). Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the natural surroundings. Overnight in camps.

After breakfast at the campsite, start the trek to Masherbrum Base Camp (4200m) through a beautiful trail, parallel to the Masherbrum Glacier. In the afternoon, have free time to visit the base camp lake and nearby viewpoints.

Take a flight from Skardu to Islamabad, and upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. After enjoying lunch, embark on a sightseeing tour.

Masherbrum Base Camp Trek in Pakistan

### Pakistan is a new outdoor adventure hotspot, and home to some of the most stunning mountains in the world. On this 19-day adventure, you will get to climb to the top of the majestic Manglik Sar in the remote Shimshal Valley in the Karakoram Range.

Manglik Sar is a beautiful mountain that stands at an altitude of 6050m (19849 ft.) in the Shimshal Valley in the  Karakoram Range. The Shimshal Valley is the most remote of the Humza region and a unique place in Pakistan in terms of rugged landscapes and local traditions.

On this program, we will set off from Islamabad towards Passu, where we will take a jeep to enter the valley and hike for two days before reaching the village of Shimshal. From there, we will begin a 4-day trek towards our base camp where we will be greeted by grazing yaks in a flowery meadow surrounded by awe-inspiring landscapes. It’s all uphill from there until we get to the summit, and then it is time to return. You can find a detailed itinerary below.

Please keep in mind you need to be physically fit to join this program. Additionally, it is best to come with some prior mountain climbing experience. Of course, we will be there to help and guide you on the way.

Arrive Islamabad – Narran / Besham

Exciting drive on KKH through the gorge of Indus & Hunza rivers to upper Hunza. En-route, we will visit the junction of the world’s three greatest mountain ranges, Himalayas, Hindukush, and the Karakoram. Enjoy fascinating views of Nanga Parbat (8,125 m) & Rakaposhi (7,788 m). Overnight in the hotel. ( 500/530 km, 8/9 hours)

Narran / Besham –Hunza Karimabad

We will start the day with a short ride on soft-top 4×4 jeeps from Passu village towards Shimshal valley. The jeep track passes through the narrow gorge of the Shimshal River. After 2 hours of jeep ride, we will arrive at the ‘travelers hut’ of Ziarat. Some 600 years ago a Sufi Saint (Shah Shams) from central Asia arrived here and stayed here for several nights. He also preached Islam in this region. From Ziarat we can see Karoon 1 (7164m) Peak and enjoy a beautiful view of Dastagil Sar (7885m). GH/ Camp overnight. (4/5 hours, 3300m).

Hunza / Passu Shmshal Valley

For the next two days, our hike will be through the really narrow gorge of the Shimshal River. Our walk from the village for the first two hours is in the open valley along the river. Soon we will leave the main valley and turn to the left to enter the gorge. Mostly the trek is safe, although at few places you would need good balance on the narrow foot track. En-route enjoy views of Kunianchish and Yazgildoom peaks both are above 7000m. Furzin, a narrow camp along the side stream known for its Birch trees. Overnight in Furzin. (5/6 hours).

Shimshal – Gar Sar / Pasth Furzin

We will start from the camp with a steep ascent of 200 meters on the cliff facing the camp, traverse gradually for half an hour and then descend steeply to the Shimshal River. Then, we will cross the river on a footbridge and walk for another hour to Pariyan camp for the cool breeze off the Maidur Nallah and a fresh lunch. After, we will take on the last part of the gorge walk, involving a one and a half-hour ascent on a well maintained yet steep foot trek (pariyan) to the top, called Pariyan Sar, with fascinating views of our peak Manglik and many other summits. Enjoy the vista and a relaxing hour hike to the camp. Our Arbabparian camp is a shepherds settlement for winter, with plenty of freshwaters. (4/5 hours)

Gar Sar / Pasth Furzin - Arbab Parian

Compared to the last two days, it is a relaxing walk along the river with views of peaks soaring above 6,000 meters. On the way, we will pass Ganj Dour Valley, leading north to the China border where we will pass by many pastures for the yaks and goats. This valley is known for its substantial population of blue sheep, Marcopolo sheep, Ibex and also a few snow leopards and bears. Shunjerab is the summer home of Shimshalis, with 60 houses and huge yards to house the animal & human population. People stay here in May & June and then proceed over Shimshal pass to Shuwart to spend the winter. Camp overnight (4/5 hours)
