What should I know about Rock Climbing Romania?

Romania should be considered a hidden gem among European rock climbing destinations. Numerous stark rock faces may be found throughout the Carpathian Mountains, offering excellent climbing opportunities for beginners, intermediate and advanced climbers.

While the mountains around Cluj are particularly good for rock climbing, there are many other excellent spots as well. Temperatures tend to be a bit cooler during the spring and autumn. The summer, however, is also the wettest time of year. Spring and autumn both tend to be a bit drier.

Any trip to Romania will likely begin with a flight into Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP). You can get here via a direct flight from most major European airports. From here, it is easy and scenic to take a train up into the Carpathian mountains and on to your final destination.
