**Monte Rosa** is an ice-covered mountain massif lying on the eastern region of the **Pennine Alps** (also known as the Valais Alps), on the northwest of Italy, bounding with Switzerland. With an elevation of **4,634 meters**, it is the second-highest mountain in the Alps and in the whole western Europe.

Monte Rosa is also one of the top mountaineering and backcountry skiing destinations in Europe. Given its high altitude, it features **huge off-piste areas with deep powder** during long seasons. Eternal snows and extensive glaciers largely cover the whole mountain, except for its granite ridge summit.

Our tour will depart from the **Cervinia** ski resort, located in the **Aosta Valley**, where we will take the lift up to the **Plateau Rosa** ski area (3,500m).

During 6 days, we will splitboard across Monte Rosa’s slopes and high valleys, spending the nights in different mountain refuges, among which is the famous **Regina Margherita Hut (4,559m), the highest mountain shelter in Europe**. As a highlight, we will traverse across several mountains in the area, **visiting 6 peaks over 4,000 meters on the fifth day**!

**The Monte Rosa Massif and the Matterhorn are two of the Alps highlights!** Both popular winter sport destinations, they are a haven for splitboarders, snowboarders and skiers alike! **On this 6-day splitboarding traverse, I will guide you to both these amazing places** in the Alps!

Located in the Piedmont and Aosta Valley region, **Monte Rosa** is a massif in the Italian Alps near the Swiss canton of Valais. Anyone who knows the Alps knows the famous **Matterhorn**, which is a great and classic winter sport challenge.

Our traverse resembles the infinity symbol when outlined on the map, which is why I have dubbed this the “infinity tour”. There is certainly something about mountaineering in the Alps that feels very special. On our traverse we will not only get the chance to splitboard, but also to discover some of the most awe inspiring spots on this unique route. **We will explore glaciers, amazing runs, stunning sceneries and also enjoy the hospitality and comforting cuisine of the mountain huts** we stay in on the way!

We will set off from Cervinia. After a quick trip briefing and equipment check, we will being. Every day we will explore a different area of the Alps and practice our splitboarding and mountaineering skills. Because this is a 6-day traverse in the Alps you will need some previous splitboarding experience as well as a good fitness level. Of course, I will be there to guide you every step of the way!

From **Cervinia** we will take the cable car to the **Plateau Rosa** and then skin all the way up to the Breithorn Pass. If the weather allows us **we can climb to the top of the Breithorn**. Our route then passes below the Breithorn and Pollux to the **Verra Pass** from which a long but enjoyable descent over the glacier will lead to **the Ferraro Hut**. We’ll be welcomed by Fausta and some fantastic food. We’ll have dinner and spend the night at this hut.

A half hour on skins will take us to the **Monte Rosa Ski Resort pistes**, where we’ll take full advantage of the excellent snow for some off-piste runs. At the end of the day, we will be setting off the Passo dei Salati and heading up to the **Mantova Hut**, where we’ll have dinner and sleep.

Early in the morning we’ll set off upwards following the Lys Glacier to the Lysjoch. From there, a long descent will take us over the Grenzgletscher to **Furi**. Finally, we will take the cable car to the **Guide del Cervino Hut**, on the Plateau Rosa, where we will enjoy a meal and stay overnight.

With the runs still uncrowded we will head down from the Plateau Rosa to Cervinia. From there, we’ll skin our way up to the **Colle di Vofrède** before traversing the **Colle di Bella Tsa** and making our way down to **the Prarayer Hut.** We’ll eat a local meal and spend the night in that hut

We’ll head back up via the Oren Valley until we are close to the Nacamuli Hut. After that, we’ll continue to the Col Collon and the Col de l’Eveque. There, we must replace skins for crampons and climb the exposed ridge of **Becca d’Oren**. Right on the border between Italy and Switzerland, we will catch some breathtaking views. The descent to the **Nacamuli Hut** is short but a lot of fun. Meal and overnight stay at the hut.

The last day starts with a climb back up to the **Col Collon**, followed by the descent of the **Haut Glacier d’Arolla**. When we arrive below the Col du Mont Brulé, we’ll take off our splitboards for the 200-m climb to the col itself. The descent from the col takes us into the heart of the **Glacier de Tsan** from where a long but easy ascent leads to the **Col de Valpelline** and incredible views of the Dent d’Herens and the west side of the Matterhorn. At this point, we must face the 2300-m descent to Furi and then **pass under the north face of the Matterhorn.** We’ll then head up to the Klein Matterhorn by cable car, before finishing our adventure with a long descent to Cervinia.

Located between Italy and Switzerland, the **Monte Rosa area** offers tons of 4000-meter summits, ideal for adventurous in reach of big goals. With the most beautiful views, this trip combines skiing, splitboarding and ice climbing. Come with me to explore Italy at 4.000 meters above sea level!

There are many fascinating **“4-thousanders”** around the Monte Rosa massif. The list includes:

*   **_Ludwigshöhe_** _(4.341m),_ 
    
*   **_Balmenhorn_** _(4.167m),_ 
    
*   **_Pyramid Vincent_** _(4.215m),_ 
    
*   **_Schwarzhorn_** _(4.321m),_ 
    
*   **_Parrotspitze_** _(or the Parrot Peak, at 4.432m),_
    
*   **_Dofourspitze_** _(also known as the Dofour Peak, the highest summit in the area at 4.634 meters)_
    
*   **_Signalkuppe_** _(4.554m)._
    

Most of these mountains are very close to each other which means that, depending on the fitness level of the group, we can conquer and ski more than one in a day!

This four-day trip will start in **Gressoney**, from where we will climb to the comfortable **Mantova Refuge** at 3.498 meters, where we’ll spend the first night. On the second day, we’ll climb to the **Gnifetti Hut** (3.647m) and ascend to one or more 4-thousanders of your choice. The third day, we can add one or more peaks over 4000 meters to your list and sleep at the cozy Gnifetti Hut. Finally, we will spend the last day ski-touring around this amazing area.

This trip is recommended for advanced skiers with previous experience in the use of ice-ax and crampons. We will be ascending close to 1.400 meters per day, hence, it is required to have a good physical condition.

If you are a looking for a good winter experience in the Alps, this proposal may sound tempting to you: a splitboarding adventure to **Margherita Hut**, on the border between Italy and Switzerland, and a 3300 meter long descent back to the base.

The _Reina Margherita_ is a guarded mountain hut, situated at the top of the Signalkuppe, one of the highest peaks in the **Monte Rosa massif**. At an elevation of of 4549 meters, it is undoubtedly the highest refuge in Europe.

During this **2-day adventure** we will climb up there using our splitboards. Our starting point will be Alagna, Piedmont.  Then we must take the ski lift to **Punta Indren (3273 m)** and continue towards the Indren Glacier. We’ll sleep in the Mantova refuge and on day 2 we’ll finally reach the Margherita Hut. Here comes the best part: **a great snowboard descent down to Alagna!**

The best season to do this traverse is **from March to April** and participants must be physically prepared and have snowboarding experience.

If you’re a **splitboarder or snowboarder** looking for good freeride descents in Monte Rosa, you should join me on this one or more days program.

**Monte Rosa massif**  is a very famous area, mainly due to its many off-piste spots that can be easily reached by ski lifts. It is in fact, the only site in Europe that has more than **2000-meter-long vertical runs** to enjoy with your snowboard.

What I am proposing today is a **custom and flexible program** that will depend on multiple factors: technical level of the group, available time in the area and weather/snow conditions.

So, I will plan a personalized off piste snowboarding adventure, just for you and your group. We’ll take the first lift at 8:30 am to Punta Indren (3270 m) and from there I’ll take care of taking you to the best powder runs, that can be found in any of the following places:

*   **Balma:** one of the most renown itineraries due to its different lines to descend. In addition its access is easy from Punta Indren;
    
*   **Salza:** another classic route in Monte Rosa that goes through a wide valley with exciting descents of 1750 meters long (even suitable for beginners);
    
*   **Malfatta:**  a 2000 meters of descent that requires a 40 m rappel via a steep couloir. Malfatta leads to a valley where powder remains for a long time;
    
*   **Valle Perduta**: 45 min walking with splitboards will take us to the steep couloir. Once there, we will enjoy 1850 meters of runs through a glacier;
    
*   **Zube Valley:** after 30 min splitboarding, 1750 meters of descent waits for us to snowboard down the stunning valley.

**Join me for an incredible week exploring some of the most beautiful spots in the Alps with this Monte Rose guided splitboarding adventure!**

**Monte Rosa** is a beautiful mountain massif located in the border between **Switzerland** and **Italy**. It’s part of the **Pennine Alps** and one of its many amazing features is the second highest mountain in **Western Europe,** the **Monte Rosa (4634 m)**.

This program welcomes both snowboarders and skiers and its designed to **summit 4 peaks over 4000 meters** and ride amazing powder lines in the meantime.

We’ll meet in **Courmayeur** and start with a short briefing on some safety routines, gear check and game plan. Then, the next day we’ll go to **Cervinia** from where the adventure will begin.

We’ll ascend to the **Breithorn (4,165 m), Castor summit (4,228 m), Signalkuppe (4,554 m) and Giordani peak (4,046 m).** We’ll also use our splitboards to get to **Il Naso**, right on the **toe of Liskamm**.

All along the way we’ll spend the nights in different mountain huts, which are perfect to share stories and feel the traditional mountaineering atmosphere of the Alps.

Travel to the Alps, to the Saas region. We will leave at dawn and arrive at the hotel late in the afternoon. We will stay and have dinner at the same hotel.

Travel to the Alps

The adventure begins. First, we will climb on the first cable car to Klein Matterhorn. From there we will ascend to our first summit, **the Breithorn (4165 mt)** and then finally descend to the **Guida Vall d’Ayas hut (3200 mt).**

We will leave at dawn and direct ourselves to the refuge towards Castor (4226 mt).

We will descend by its spectacular edge to the **Felik glacier** to slip through it to the **Quintino Sella hut (3200 mt).**

We will leave the shelter and direct ourselves towards the valley that we descended the previous day. Then we will access **the Liskam Glacier** and cross it until we reach the point where we can ascend the summit of **Naso del Liskamm (4272 mt).**From there, we can descend directly to the refuge or make another climb to the **Pyramid Vincent (4270 mt).**

We will finish the day at the **Gnifetti hut(3611 mt).**

From Gnifetti shelter we will ascend to the **Margarita Refuge**, the highest in Europe located at Punta Gnifetti or Signalkuppe at (4554 mt).

On the way we can ascend to different peaks: **Balmenhorn (4167 mt ), Corno Nero (4322 mt), Ludwigshöhe (4342 mt), Parrotpitze (4436 mt) Zumsteinpitze (4563 mt).**

Descent by the **Greezletscher** to **Monte Rosa hut (2795 mt).**

Gnifetti shelter - Margarita Refuge - Different peaks we may ascend 

We will have two options depending on fatigue and desire:

– Ascent to a modest summit, Torre di Castelfranco or cima di Jazzi (3804 mt)  
and go down to Zermatt.  
– We could also extend the route by crossing to the  **Brittania Hut in the Saas Valley.**

Possibility of  ascending  **Stralhorn (4190 mt).**

Night in Britania hut.

Ascend to Torre di Castelfranco or cima di Jazzi (3804 mt)

Descent to Saas Fee from the Britannia hut and taxi to Zermatt.

Return Trip.
