2-day Trek in Serra dos Orgaos with overnight in a mountain hut, near Rio

This 2-day trek I will lead you on takes us through the truly stunning, beautiful and idyllic Serra dos Orgaos National Park, near Rio, as we wind our way through some of the most exquisite rainforest in the country, passing the vast tracts of valleys, waterways and waterfalls, sheer cliffs and thousands of species of flora and fauna to reach the highest summit in the park, Pedra do Sino.

The Serra dos Orgaos National Park is mostly located within the state of Rio de Janiero, just a 2-hour drive from the city of Rio de Janiero, and was created as Brazil’s third ever national park, in 1939.

We begin by meeting in the city of Teresopolis, where all relevant safety information and gear is dispensed.

From there we begin our trek in earnest, as we traipse and travail through and past the thick green vegetation, the numerous waterfalls and the rocky outcrops.

There will be plenty of stops for us to take in and bask in the scenery around us, and once we reach the peak of Pedra do Sino in the afternoon we are exposed to sweeping and spectacular panoramic views back over the park and all the way to Rio de Janeiro and Guanabara Bay. We stay for a while, allowing as much time as possible to admire the views, and also the special sunset.

After a night spent in a cosy, quaint and rustique mountain hut, we trek on the Caminho das Orquideas trail, lined with lovely exotic orchids, before reaching another viewpoint which overlooks the “Devil’s Needle” rock formation.

After this viewpoint it is time to head back to Teresopolis, where our journey ends with a head full of memories and a heart full of love for this Brazilian paradise.
