Description

The trek to Snow Lake, a beautiful glacial basin in the Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan is no less than a walk into paradise. Join us as we explore the unique culture of Baltistan and take you to this milky white mass of ice amidst snow-capped peaks.

Snow Lake is a 16 km wide gigantic basin which spreads in opposite directions from Hispar La. Located at an altitude of 4800 m, at the head of Biafo and Hispar glaciers, it connects the ancient mountain kingdoms of Hunza in the west to Baltistan in the east. This 100 km river of ice stretches across Hispar La, where the Biafo glacier meets the Hispar glacier, making it the longest glacier systems outside of Antarctica.

The region is so remote that it serves as the last home for mountain animals like the snow leopard, ibex, markhor, and the Himalayan bear!

We’ll begin this journey from the capital city of Islamabad. Following the K2 base camp trail, we’ll turn west onto the Biafo Glacier. The grassy campsites of Namla, Mango and Baintha will soon give way to rocky terrain. We’ll trek to the Snow Lake from the Hispar La base camp. And once you reach this river of ice, you’ll be awe-struck! After absorbing the unspoilt beauty, we’ll cross Hispar La (5151m), the highest point of the trek.

The trek offers spectacular sights of the high peaks of Kanjut Sar, Makrong Chhish, Latok peaks and many more. On our way back, we’ll descend down to Hunza to see another culture so different from the Baltistani way of living.

So don’t wait any longer. Send a message to embark on the Snow Lake Trek in Pakistan. Interested in some more adventure in Pakistan? We also guide this trek to Karomber Lake in Pakistan’s Broghil Valley.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
