Highlights

  • Take part in an exceptional hike on unspoiled trails.

  • Traverse Sherpa villages and get to know local customs and culture.

  • Experience a fantastic Himalayan adventure without great technical difficulty.

Join me on a memorable 22-day trek to Nepal and witness the mixture of dramatic wilderness and centuries-old Buddhist tradition.

We will visit Sherpa country and tour the sparse Dolpo massif, one of the wildest regions in Nepal. The scenery is magnificent and is home to dolpopas, masters of Buddhism.

The deeply-rooted Buddhist culture and traditions flow through the remote region of western Nepal and roll over the mountains. It has long been forbidden for foreigners to enter the territory, which has limited any outside influences.

We will pass deep vertical gorges that lead to the villages of Tarap. Here the locals live in the harsh, wild environment, whose rituals and festivals are tuned to the rhythm of the seasons.

The defining features of the landscape include the Phoksundo Lake. The fresh alpine water lies at an elevation of 3,611 meters above sea level. The lake is surrounded by beautiful blue pines, and neighbours the Kanjiroba massif that stretches to 6,883 meters.

The flat-roofed buildings and Buddhist shrines (chortens) rest in the mountainside as the caravans slowly pass-by between Nepal and Tibet. Between the end of May to the end of November our trails are traversed with these caravans of yaks crisscrossing the snow-covered range to trade Tibetan rock salt with Nepalese flour and spices.

The 22-day trek is perfect for people who want to experience the wonders of the Himalayas without any great technical difficulty. However, participants need to have a high level of fitness. It is recommended that, prior to the tour, you have been training for 5-7 hours of steady walking with a vertical accent of 1,000 meters.

Reserve your place now for a unique 22-day Himalayan adventure. Get to know the Buddhist Sherpa community while you trek through the wilder regions of Nepal.

What People are Saying about Jean-Marc Kaufmann

Hello to all who like the intensity of amazing heights reached with sometimes a bit of sweat but so rewarding that the memories live in you year in or out. I travelled many times with Jean-Marc as guide. Heliskiing in Canada, Touring skiing (seals\' skin skiing) in Tromso, Spitzberg or more simply in ski resorts like France, Italy and Bulgaria. I recommend him for the complete trust in what he is sure I can do and his guiding ability on top of our sharing a good bear after the day\'s efforts (I am Belgian so ...). I even tried myself at 53 years\' old to a bit of climbing with \"Aiguille d\'Entrève\" and discovered a new ability. Great moments past and to come.
