When temperatures dip and winter arrives, the great Adirondacks are cloaked in snow and ice, forming the ideal playground for climbing.
Sharp ice daggers and frozen walls cover countless chunks of the mountain massif that stands in the northeast of New York state.
The Adirondacks form a circular shape that fit fully within the Adirondack Park, a preserve that was established in 1885, the first in the US, and is also a National Historic Landmark.
The park is packed with thousands of lakes, miles of rivers, and towering mountains carpeted with old-growth forests.
The winter adventure begins with a day of ice climbing in and around the Keene Valley, home to some of the highest peaks on the east coast.
This wild and unspoilt chunk of New York is the polar opposite of the humming and buzzing of New York City, and is home to some majestic natural views.
Afterwards, we’ll snowshoe our way 3 miles to Johns Brook, a backcountry lodge in the Adirondacks, where we’ll relax and find warm comfort in the wintry scenes from outside.
We will ascend the Gothics mountain, which stands in the High Peaks Region of the Adirondacks. For those who are able to ice climb we’ll accomplish this via the north face. For those with little experience we’ll go the Cables Route way.
The exact itinerary will be shaped by your level of ability and experience, but will also be modified by the weather conditions to make it as safe as possible.
