Mountain Guide

Born in Mexico and raised in the Netherlands, I moved to the US as a teenager. After finishing high school in San Francisco, I attended University of California at Berkeley, where I studied Political Economy of Industrial Societies. My love for rafting was born at the age of 17, in the South Fork of the American River in California.

Since then, I’ve been a river guide, expedition leader, safety kayaker and even Dutch oven chef in adventures all over the world — including Nepal, Chile, New Zealand, Siberia and Costa Rica, among many others. I was the USA Men’s Whitewater Rafting Team Captain from 1993 to 1999 and Safety Team Captain on the Futaleufú River in Chile at the 2000 World Rafting Championships.

I rock climb, mountain bike and do all the water sports you can imagine — from scuba diving to sailing and from swimming to kayaking and rafting — and have run over 50 rivers on six continents. When not in my second home of Chile, I live in Truckee, California, my favorite mountain playground. I speak Spanish, Dutch and English fluently.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
