Description

Lava tubes carve beneath the surface of Iceland like the mythical veins of the nation.

One of the most fascinating and scenic is the Leidarendi Cave, just a 30-minute drive from the capital, Reykjavik.

Leidarendi offers a portal to the underworld where you’ll discover lava fields 900 meters long and feature spectacular rock formations, from the jagged stalagmites to the splash stalactites.

Razor-like rock teeth hang above your head while you wind through the tube.

Leidarendi translates as The End of the Road, and refers to the remains found of a lamb when the cave was first discovered 2 decades ago.

The actual cave is shaped like a circle that receives no light at all. You’ll be met in pitch black. So we’ll gear up with a helmet and headlight to navigate ourselves.

Discover the wonders of the underworld while walking, with some sections requiring you to crawl. Yet the access is easy and ideal.

Icelandic ancestors once feared the lava caves, which were dark, dangerous and populated with sharp tooth-like daggers and home to many menacing myths.

Get in touch now to reserve your place on a fascinating half-day walking tour of Leidarendi Cave in Iceland to discover stunning rock formations and chilling legends.
