Description

Explore the winter wilderness of Kazakhstan centred around the alpine waters of the Big Almaty Lake.

Sitting at 2,511 meters above sea level, the lake is surrounded by mountains of the Trans-Ili Alatau, the northern chunk of the Tian Shan mountain range.

Resting above the Big Almaty Lake is the famous research station of Kosmostantsiya, with its astronomical observatory.

The research station also hosts a mountain hut, with comfortable conditions and heated rooms. It’s from here that we’ll ride the couloirs around the station.

The station sits at an altitude of 3,350 meters above sea level, along the Zhusaly-Kezen pass.

The neighbouring mountains and couloirs offer excellent backcountry adventures and fascinating lines to carve out.

Potential participants should already have previous experience of off-piste skiing, as well as having a good level of fitness.

Sergey

Mountain Leader

I grew up in Almaty, Kazakhstan. At the age of 14I began to walk in the mountains. In 19 I came to the club of the mountaineering. I took a part of the national team of Kazakhstan. I participated in expeditions to the Himalayas, Karakorum, Tien Shan, Pamir. I started ski touring in 2012 and I haven’t stopped since then. The love of the mountains turned my hobby into my craft and I’m absolutely happy. The tourism in Kazakhstan develops very slow that’s why, you can see their primordial character and enjoy.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
