Description

Dominica’s Boiling Lake, in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, is an absolutely magical and magnificent place, as its other-worldly appearance and incredible natural surrounds take the breath away, and I will guide you as we wind our way along the fun and interesting path to get there, entailing slippery rocks, an abundance of green vegetation, hot springs and sulfur pools and more.

Morne Trois Pitons National Park was the first ever national park in Dominica, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is much volcanic activity within the park, and is also home to many lakes, valleys, streams and fields.

Our hike begins at the Titou Gorge, from which we head slightly upwards through a muddy trail, before reaching our first stop at Breakfast River.

The next section can be quite tricky owing to its sheer steepness, but on clear days we are exposed to some stunning panoramic views out over the valleys and nearby scenery.

The Valley of Desolation is the last stop before heading onwards to the lake, and whilst walking in the valley there are countless sulfur springs and hot pools to admire, with some pools even cool enough to have a quick dip in.

We then reach the focal point of the trip, The Boiling Lake, standing at 63m wide and an unknown depth, the bubbling greyish-blue water lets off clouds of vapour, adding to its mystique, and it is believed that the heat of the lake comes from a crack in the molten lava below, allowing gas to escape.

After ample time being wowed by the lake, we then head back to our starting point, where our adventure ends, with the awesome sights and sounds we have just witnessed creating life-long memories.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
