    Itinerary

    Day 1: Bishkek to Naryn (350 km / approx. 6 hours / 2,040 m)

Your adventure begins in Bishkek, where you will meet your guide and depart for the Naryn Region, one of the country’s most authentic and highest-altitude regions.

After around 1.5 hours on the road, we stop at the historic Burana Tower, a UNESCO-listed site from the Great Silk Road era. Here, you can visit the small museum and see archaeological finds, including the remarkable collection of ancient stone balbals.

Continuing through the scenic Boom Gorge, we reach our yurt camp in Naryn. Here, you will discover why water held sacred importance in Kyrgyz culture and how mountain life shaped nomadic traditions.

After dinner, enjoy an introduction to Kyrgyz nomadic philosophy, including customs surrounding birth, adulthood, family life, and farewell rituals. Overnight in a traditional yurt camp.

    Day 2: Naryn to Song-Kol Lake (160 km / 3–4 hours / 3,000 m)

After breakfast, we continue deeper into the highlands for an authentic summer nomad experience at Song-Kol Lake. Upon arrival at the lakeside yurt camp, a hearty lunch will be served.

Later in the day, take part in assembling a traditional yurt and learn the first practical skills of nomadic life. Dinner and overnight in a yurt camp.

    Day 3: Song-Kol Lake to Tash-Rabat Caravanserai (250 km / approx. 6 hours / 3,100 m)

Following breakfast, begin the day by learning the basics of horseback riding. After riding near the lake, we take part in a symbolic mission carrying a special cargo that represents trust and prosperity.

We then continue to Tash-Rabat Caravanserai, a beautifully preserved 15th-century stone inn once used by Silk Road traders. After exploring the site and enjoying a meal, we transfer to our nearby yurt camp. Dinner and an evening introduction to local traditions await. Overnight in a yurt camp.

    Day 4: Tash-Rabat to the South Shore of Issyk-Kul (350 km / approx. 5 hours / 1,800 m)

This morning begins with a walk around the historic Tash-Rabat Caravanserai before driving toward the southern shores of Issyk-Kul.

During the day, experience Salburun, a traditional Kyrgyz hunting practice that combines golden eagle demonstrations, archery, and the use of the Taigan hunting dog.

Upon arrival at the yurt camp or guesthouse, enjoy a relaxing lakeside walk before dinner and overnight stay.

    Day 5: South Shore of Issyk-Kul to Karkyra Valley (215 km / approx. 4 hours / 2,200 m)

After breakfast, travel to the scenic Karkyra Valley, known as a key migration route for cranes.

Along the way, visit local artisans who produce traditional felt carpets, then explore Karakol and its multicultural landmarks, including the wooden Dungan Mosque, built without nails, and the Holy Trinity Cathedral. We also stop at the Old Mill Museum, home to artifacts dating back to the 5th century BCE.

In the evening, arrive at the Karkyra yurt camp for dinner and overnight stay.

    Day 6: Karkyra Valley Exploration

After breakfast, set out on a hike into Char-Kuduk Gorge, surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery.

Upon returning to camp, lunch will be served. Later, join a hands-on boorsok bread-making workshop and enjoy the chance to try on traditional Kyrgyz wedding clothing.

Dinner and overnight in a traditional yurt camp.

    Day 7: Karkyra Valley to Bishkek (440 km / approx. 7 hours / 800 m)

After breakfast, we begin the return journey to Bishkek. Along the northern shore of Issyk-Kul, we stop in the village of Ornok, where the guardians of the Museum of Nomadic Civilizations will welcome us and share the final symbol of the nomad.

    Details

    Accommodation

Accommodation can be arranged in one of the following options: shared twin/double occupancy in a yurt, or single occupancy in a private yurt.

    More info

Please keep in mind that temperatures can vary significantly depending on the season and altitude. In summer, temperatures in Bishkek can reach up to 40°C, while in the mountains they may drop to around 10°C. During spring and autumn, temperatures in Bishkek can rise to 30°C, whereas mountain temperatures may fall to 0°C in poor weather conditions. We recommend packing layers and being prepared for sudden weather changes.

If you plan to exchange USD or EUR into Kyrgyz som (KGS), we recommend bringing banknotes of 50 or 100 denominations that are clean and in good condition, without stamps, writing, tears, or other damage. Damaged notes are often refused by banks and exchange offices.

Equipment you will need to bring

For this trip, we recommend bringing the following items: a rain jacket, sweater or fleece, and a windproof layer. Pack enough T-shirts and underwear, including some long-sleeved clothing to help protect against strong sun exposure. A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) are essential, as the sun can be intense. Please also bring insect repellent for both skin and clothing.

Footwear should include comfortable trekking boots suitable for easy mountain hikes, as well as lighter walking shoes for city visits. A smaller daypack in addition to your main suitcase will be very useful during excursions. Walking poles are optional but recommended if you usually use them.

You should also carry a personal first aid kit with basics such as blister care, painkillers, antihistamines, medication for digestive issues, and anything you may need for your regular medical conditions. A personal hygiene kit is recommended, including hand sanitizer and some toilet paper.

Other useful items include a small towel, swimsuit (for Issyk-Kul), a camera, and a flashlight or headlamp.

What people are saying about Explore-Share

    Man

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

    Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

    Valeriya

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
