Itinerary

Day 1: Bike

we leave Guamote to go to the paramos of the community of Huantug, at a height of 4.200 masl (13,800 ft). From here we start the cycle route going downhill for about 3 hours to reach the Atillo River. During the ride, we have the possibility to enjoy the amazing views that the Central Andes offers. Once we’ve reached the Atillo River, we put the bikes in the pick-up truck and drive towards the lakes of Atillo where we will have lunch and visit the gorgeous lakes. After the visit, we head to the cabañas  (huts) where we will spend the night. The cabañas are managed by locals.

Day 2: Hike

We will make our way back to Guamote by foot. The first part is a pretty steep climb with a 600 meter (2000 ft.) height difference. After about three hours, we will reach the highest point of our hike, and get an amazing view over the lakes of Atillo and Ozogoche. If the sky is clear, we can even see the Sangay volcano. After a little break at this amazing spot in the middle of nowhere, we descend towards the lakes of Ozogoche. We should reach the village of Ozogoche Alto after about three hours. Here we will we will have fresh trout for lunch, a local speciality. After the lunch, we return to Guamote.

I lost my heart in the Ecuadorian Andes 10 years ago. I´m living in a small town, called Guamote, deep into the Andean Mountains. Sharing the wonderful nature, in an authentic way, with foreign visitors makes, me happy.
Since 2 years ago I´m an official licensed guide of Ecuador, recognized by the Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador.
Please contact me if you want to have an authentic, but adventurous experience in the Ecuadorian Andean mountains. Perfect to get used to the height or just to have fun.

The trip was amazing! We climbed to 5000m high to the second refuge of the volcano where you get an amazing view on the valley. After we rode down the volcano with our guide and passed by many vicunas and even saw a newborn alpaca in a farm. Byron our guide was extremely kind and patient with us. The trails to go down the volcano can be a bit difficult but we took our time. Highly recommended trip!
