Hike through fishing villages on the Costa da Lagoa, Day trip from Florianopolis

Join me on this amazing day of hiking through fishing villages on the Costa da Lagoa, from Florianopolis, where we will head to the historic fishing village of Costa da Lagoa, explore the culture and ruins of the local communities such as the Ratones community, sample the amazing and fresh local food on offer, and swim in the idyllic and mesmerizing waterfall of Costa da Lagoa.

Florianopolis is the capital city of the Southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, and is best known for its gorgeous sandy beaches and the Lagoa da Conceicao, a huge lagoon that is popular for swimming and other outdoor activities.

Our day begins in the morning as we meet at Lagoa da Conceicao and walk to the district of Canto de Aracas. From there we then head to the village of Costa da Lagoa, which is only accessible by trail or boat, and encounter the Ratones community, who have inhabited the area since the 1600’s and are fiercely proud of their customs and traditions.

Once at the village we will learn more about the fishing practices employed there, before indulging in a fresh and delicious lunch made up of the local produce, especially seafood!

After lunch it is time to hike again, as we meander past the ruins of houses and mills dating back some 300 years, before reaching the undoubted highlight of the day – a swim at the foot of the majestic and magnificent waterfall of Costa da Lagoa, enabling us to refresh and relax after our exertions.

We then finish the adventure by catching a boat back to Lagoa da Conceicao, weary and content at the fun we’ve had and the beauty we have seen.
