Join a five-day journey through Macedonia’s most stunning mountain regions, combining scenic hikes, cultural landmarks, and local flavors. This trip takes you across three national parks, through UNESCO-protected landscapes, and into strictly preserved areas rich in endemic flora.

Enjoy moderate hikes with incredible views, taste authentic Macedonian cuisine and local wines, and visit historical sites like the St. John the Baptist Monastery. You’ll also explore Skopje, the dynamic capital city, on a guided tour.

    Itinerary

    Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Popova Shapka

    We’ll greet you at Skopje Airport—exact meeting time will depend on your arrival schedule. If time allows, you can join an optional city tour of Skopje before heading toward the mountains.

    From the city, we’ll transfer to the mountain resort of Popova Shapka, located at 1,700 meters above sea level on Shar Mountain.

    A welcome dinner will be served at the hotel, followed by an overnight stay in Popova Shapka.

    Day 2: Hike to Tito’s Peak & Transfer to Mavrovo

    After breakfast, we begin our trek to Tito’s Peak (2,747 m), following the summer route through alpine meadows rich in endemic flora and some of the most breathtaking panoramas in Macedonia. Once we descend, we’ll transfer to Mavrovo National Park, where you’ll be accommodated for the night. Dinner and overnight in Mavrovo.

    • Duration: 7–9 hours
    • Distance: 24 km
    • Elevation gain: 1,100 m
    • Start: 1,700 m | Finish: 1,400 m
    • Required fitness: Moderate to high
    • Highlights: Panoramic views, rich biodiversity

    Day 3: Summit of Golem Korab

    Following breakfast, we drive to Strezimir Watchtower, the starting point for our hike to Golem Korab (2,764 m), the highest peak in both Macedonia and Albania. The standard summer trail takes around four hours to the summit and 3–4 hours back. Based on group interest and ability, alternative routes may be offered. After the hike, there’s an option to explore the Adzina Reka area to see endemic conifer species and visit the historic Bigorski Monastery, dedicated to St. John the Baptist.

    Day 4: Hike to Lera & Return to Skopje

    A short 4x4 ride takes us to Dingova Crkva, the starting point of our relaxed hike to Lera Peak. The route meanders through scenic pastures at the southwestern edge of the Shar massif. After reaching the summit, there’s an option to visit a local shepherd’s hut or take a brief side hike to the Adzina Reka springs. After the hike, we return to Skopje for hotel check-in and enjoy a farewell dinner at a traditional national restaurant.

    • Distance: 16 km
    • Elevation gain: 400 m
    • Start/Finish: 1,700 m
    • Required fitness: Moderate
    • Highlights: Scenic trails, cultural interaction, natural springs

    Day 5: Departure

    Transfer to Skopje Airport for your return flight. Depending on your flight time, additional optional activities may be arranged.

    Proper clothing and gear are essential for a safe and successful mountain trip. While there are certain items and travel clothes you may need for your journey, not all of them will be necessary during the actual mountain tour. These extra items can be left at your hotel and picked up after the tour—bringing a lightweight, foldable bag for this purpose is highly recommended.
