Description

Join me on this amazing circumnavigation of the impressive Mont Blanc massif, traversing France, Switzerland and Italy. This unique 5-day mountain bike tour follows a high mountain single trail of over 2000 m around this majestic mountain. We will ride about 8140hm up and more than 11000hm down.

Our tour starts clockwise in France, goes into Switzerland, continues to Italy and turns back to France. During this unforgettable week, you will have the opportunity to see the Mont Blanc from all directions. We will also enjoy breathtaking views of other impressive mountains, offering a spectacular panorama, like the Grandes Jorasses, the Aiguille du Chardonnet, the Aiguille du Dru, just to name a few.

We will orient ourselves in large parts or the tour along the ultramarathon route around the Mont Blanc massif. The trails are diverse: from super flowy to partly blocky, which means that you need solid S2 driving skills in order to join this tour and fully enjoy it. You also need to be in good condition as to ride 1600Hm and previous experience on hiking trails in alpine terrain, on pushing and handling sliding passages.

During the tour, we will be staying in beautiful hotels along the way. Regarding the ascents, most of them have to be kicked by ourselves, but on three out of the five days of the tour we will also use the existing lifts to make some additional meters.  You can check the day-by-day itinerary below.

So what are you waiting for? Check the dates below and book your trip! Join me on this amazing tour for a spectacular circumnavigation of Mont Blanc. I also offer another fantastic mountain bike tour around Stelvio Pass, in the Ortler Alps. Check it out!

If you wish to come on a different date, just let me know, and we will try to set another date together.

Itinerary

Day 1: Col de Balme (2191m)-1980Hm/45 km

We enjoy a leisurely drive on the Mont Blanc circumnavigation tour to the gondola. Then we do a few laps in the bike park. Then a short but steep climb follows and after that, a long single trail – the first highlight of this week. The subsequent ascent includes a longer sliding passage. At the end a quaint Swiss alpine hut awaits. The last trail descent of the day takes us to the beautiful Champex Lac.

Day 2: Col de Ferret (2539m)-1590Hm-46 km

This day starts with a steep trail descent, before the climb begins to the highest point of the tour: the Col de Ferret. First we ride comfortably on a mountain pass, then we have a gravel road and the last 500hm on trail are uphill to the highest point. This part of the tour is suitable only for experienced bikers in very good condition. At the top there is a dream panorama view, including the Grandes Jorasses. The descent is also amazing. Depending on the remaining forces we can explore another trail with a small climb before Courmayeur.

Day 3: Col de la Seigne (2520m)-1990Hm-63 km

The longest day of the tour starts with a beautiful ride through the Val Veny. On the highest part we may possibly find some sliding passages. Then  a fantastic flowing trail  follows, with a breathtaking panorama view. After lunch, a paved road (Tour de France) brings us back to the Col de Roselend and to the Lac de Roselend. From that point, the trail goes again 200hm uphill and then 1000hm downhill to Beaufourt on a forest trail partially built for bikers.

Day 4: Col de Joly (1985 m)-1390Hm-38km

A long but pleasant climb takes us to the Col du Joly, from where we have a breathtaking view of Mont Blanc. The following trail leads us directly to our stage destination, Le Contamines. If you want to treat yourself with some peace and quietness, you can spend the afternoon just  relaxing in the valley. Otherwise, the gondola can take you to 2 or 3 casual trails.

Day 5: Col de Voza (1670m)-1190Hm-37km

The climb up to the Col de Voza is really steep. As a reward there is of course a descent trail, as well as a lunch break in Chamonix. In the afternoon, there is another gondola lift. From here you can enjoy the panorama of the entire north side of the Mont Blanc massif, before a technical single trail brings us directly to the destination of our round to Argentière.
