Description

Located in the Cederberg mountains near Cape Town, Rocklands is a beautiful semi-arid area in South Africa. Famous for its excellent quality rocks, Rocklands offers a wide variety of bouldering options of all grades.  We can go for one day or many, depending upon your preference. The rock is a fine grain sandstone well suited for climbing due to its of medium hardness.

The bouldering area is spread out on a huge area of around 20 km along the road. You can choose from any of the single pitch routes. We can choose to stay at Kliphuis campsite and approach different routes from here.

Rocklands Bouldering areas are many and varied. Campground Boulders is a higher level area which can be accessed by walking. This area overlooks the campsite and looks like a teapot when seen from the south.

Roadside Boulders is a popular spot which includes several bolted routes. The most developed area so far, it can be approached by driving from the campsite for about 3 km followed by a walk for about 20 minutes. Here, you’ll see massive boulders at the base of the hill.

Ceder Rouge Area lies on the left of Roadside boulders. It has a few classic routes like the ‘Black Eagle’ and ‘Leopard Cave’. Located near the top of a hill, it provides excellent options.

Located west of campsite towards Clanwilliam, Champside Boulders is a big steep rock, while the routes on the large boulders of De Pakhuys are called fields of joy owing to the stunning experience they provide.

The Fortress Area can be accessed in the same way as the Roadside area. The bouldering area falls behind the Fortress to the right and offers excellent routes.

Rocklands bouldering is fun and exciting and the options are many. So, don’t wait further. Send us a message to climb these massive giants in Cape Town in South Africa. We also guide this sunset hike to Lion’s Head in Cape Town.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
