Head to the alluring Belledonne Mountains of the French Alps and spend a day ski touring through Chamrousse! This guided program explores one of Isere’s most notable ski resorts, including the illustrious backcountry from Bachat Bouloud to Croix de Chamrousse and everything in between!
Chamrousse, located just southeast of Grenoble, has long held a place as one of the premiere ski destinations in France. The region was the former host of the 1968 Winter Olympics, serving as the site for major men’s and women’s events. It has since become a haven for powder hounds looking for lengthy runs (90 kilometers on piste) and a relentless backcountry with varied terrain.
Your program is designed to give you the best of Chamrousse, from the notorious trail to the Cross of Chamrousse at 2,253 meters to the basic off-piste jaunts that are symbolic of classic Alp ski trips. There are 24 ski lifts to get you to various parts of the resort and beyond, with plenty of routes that cut from the chair straight to the backcountry. The altitude is enough for agreeable snow cover replete with tree skiing, steep lines, and open glades.
We will begin early to make the most of our day. The resort measures a total vertical up to 850 meters from its base at 1,400 meters, so we have plenty of ungroomed now to explore. There are a number of great routes for novices, so I will be able to give you detailed and beneficial guidance on ski touring technique all along the way. We can cover backcountry movement, using your skins efficiently, avalanche safety, and so much more.
The most exciting run is a newly marked trail runs from the resort to the Cross of Chamrousse, perfect for beginners who are heading out of bounds for the first time. This trail covers four kilometers and roughly 500 meters in vertical. This run, which begins at the Bachat Bouloud Bridge, is becoming a popular attraction for ski touring because of its clear labels, unhindered access, evocative setting, and all-around enjoyment and fun.
There are different ways we can plan this itinerary, so let me know what you are looking for and we can tailor this trip around your needs and schedule. This is one of my favorite places to ski. I have plenty of ideas to make this a fun, safe, and absolutely satisfying program in one of France’s most beautiful regions.
You should be in good shape to enjoy this program with enough skiing proficiency to confidently and comfortably head into the backcountry for a full day of skiing. Those who have mastered the groomed resorts and are ready to head off-piste and take on natural runs of untouched snow are encouraged to join.
Book this unforgettable guided ski touring day in Chamrousse NOW and see why the former Olympic runs of Isere are still some of the best in France and the Alps, with the help of the Bachat-Bouloud to the Cross of Chamrousse line!
For a different type of treat, we can also head north into Savoie and go ski touring in Areches Beaufort for a powder-filled adventure!
