Description

Sprawling over 823 square miles (2,130 square kilometers), a Snowdonia hiking course is a great way to learn useful and necessary mountain skills.

Situated in the mountainous heart of northwest Wales, the park is perfectly suited for a variety of different training activities, including planning, walking skills, navigation in the mountains, and hazards and emergency procedures.

Each morning, we will meet in Capel Curig and head out into a different part of the park. We will then spend between 5 and 6 hours of each day going over the sills as we hike through this incredible landscape.

As we go, you will learn how to map out your route and navigate without using a cell phone or maps application. We will also go over good walking techniques for difficult terrains and how to keep your energy levels up.

As we head through the various gullies and climb the numerous mountain ridges of the park, we will also go over the environmental impact of hiking and how to deal with adverse weather conditions as well as other emergency situations that may occur.

By the end of the trip, you will have increased your knowledge of useful and necessary mountain skills and enjoyed the stunning scenery of northern Wales!

So what are you waiting for? Book now for this scenic and informative 2-day Snowdonia hiking course in the mountains of northern Wales!

Mountain Guide

I hold a Mountaineering Instructor Certificate (MIC). I am fully qualified to guide and instruct all aspects of mountaineering and climbing in the UK throughout the year. Also, I am a full member of the Mountain Training Association (MTA) and the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI).

I love climbing and this passion has taken me all over the world, even to the summit of Mount Everest. I have also climbed in the Andes, as well as in the Alps, Norway and Canada. I reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 2001, as a member of the RAF Mountain Rescue Service Everest North Ridge expedition.

I first started mountaineering in Scotland with the RAF Mountain Rescue Service, over 20 years ago. Since then, I haven't stopped climbing and exploring new mountains in the UK and abroad. I have been a RAF Mountain Rescue Team Leader and also the Chief Instructor for 5 years. I have also climbed all the Munros, the Scottish peaks above 3000 feet.

I love climbing around North Wales and the rest of the UK. We have so many amazing climbing and scrambling spots to discover in this area! I enjoy taking my clients there for rock climbing, scrambling and mountain skills courses or for a guided day out.

We can set up a program according to your level and wishes. Contact me and we can start planning your next mountain adventure right away!

We booked with SW&C for the North Ridge on Tryfan, with the goal being to let my 12 year-old daughter climb a mountain in the UK that you can’t walk to the top of. I’m so glad we did. We had the best day out despite the classic Welsh weather, and our guide made the whole thing totally stress-free, including navigating with visibility down to 10 feet or so at some points, taking loads of photos of us, showing the easiest moves for the “crux” and having a generally encyclopaedic knowledge of the mountain and related areas in general. I can’t recommend SW&C highly enough!

Ascending Ben Nevis was a shared 21st/75th birthday treat for my grandson and me. Rich was really kind right from the start - eg changing the start time because some of our luggage was lost en route and we had to buy new waterproofs. He spent time getting to know us and our capabilities, encouraged us to do things like eating and keeping warm, encouraged us and joked with us and told stories all the way to the top in wind and rain and snow (in July!). Going down was something else and I'd have died, I think, without Rich, because my legs more or less packed up. He and my grandson encouraged me evey painful step of the way (six hours) and towards the end Rich tethered me to himself with a rope for support and encouragement. Never an impatient word, in spite of the very extended day, and not a hint that I might have bitten off more than I could chew. I am so happy and grateful. A scholar and a gentleman! Thank you Rich.

Climbing Snowdon as a single parent with my 16yr old son was never going to end well without a guide. I needed to make sure we got up & down safely without getting lost. Richard provided so much more than that, with interesting facts about the plant & wildlife, not to mention his background climbing Everest and as an RAF Engineer. I felt in very safe hands and our comfort & enjoyment was clearly his top priority. If you're looking for a guide, look no further! Thanks Richard for a great experience.
