Description
Get ready to explore one of Brazil’s hidden treasures: the Gruta do Lago Azul. Just 20 minutes outside the city of Bonito in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, this stunning lake can only be accessed with a guide. Follow us to this impressive natural gem.
Gruta do Lago Azul is a breathtaking cave-like rock formation with an intense blue lake inside. It is one of the biggest inundated cavities in the world, where archeologists have found animal fossils including those of giant sloths and saber-toothed tigers. It is a natural monument which guarantees its conservation and is also the postcard image of Bonito city.
Our hike to the lake will take us through an uneven path and a 300-step staircase. The whole adventures takes around 3 to 4 hours to complete, with enough time for you to enjoy the views and take as many pictures as you want.
This is a relatively easy adventure you can carry out with kids as young as 5 years old. We recommend coming between September and February, when the lake acquires its intense blue color due to the reflecting light.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge.
