The rocky island of Reunion is a natural wonderland for exploring via canyoning. Trek along the forested dirt trails, slide long the rocks before taking a swim to cool down in the natural clear-water lakes, and descend the rugged cliffs by abseiling. Visit in the cooler months between June and September for ideal canyoning conditions.
The overseas French region and Southern African island of Reunion lies off the coast of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. The island is technically one of the outermost regions of the European Union. Most of the island’s terrain is rugged and mountainous, as well as holding fertile coastal lowlands. The highest point on the island is the huge shield volcano of Piton des Neiges, which reaches 3,069 meters.
The mountainous island receives a tropical climate, with the temperature moderated by elevation. From May to November the weather is cool and dry, and from November to April it is hot and rainy.
