Locked between Europe and Asia, Azerbaijan is home to many unexplored wonders. The stunning Caucasus mountains to the north of the country boast landscapes that range from glaciated ice fields to rocky ridges to lush green valleys. To the east, the Caspian Sea is part sea and lake. Finally, ancient villages, ruins, and castles scattered around the country add the finishing touch to this land of wonder and mystery.
Very hot summers and cold dry winters characterize the climate of Azerbaijan. Also, keep in mind that the winter in the mountains is very extreme.
You can fly to Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport or take a train from Tbilisi in Georgia. Road travel from and to Russia is forbidden to foreigners, and the border with Armenia is closed.
In between seasons are the best time to visit Azerbaijan in order to avoid scorching summers and freezing winters. April to June and September to October are the best months.
