I’d like to invite skiers and winter adventurers to this **2 day expedition** since I think **Huayna Potosi** is a great spot to practice real ski touring in Bolivia and climb a mythic summit.

The Huayna Potosi mountain is near La Paz. In this area of **Cordillera Real** we have warm and cozy huts as well as camping sites to sleep under the stars, even at more than 5000 meters in height! From up there we will have the stunning views of **Lake Titicaca** and the Yungas (subtropical jungle).

We will also get to see amazing mines, lagoons, a dam at the head of the valley and a breathtaking panorama on **Telata and Charquini.**

Our meeting and final point will be **La Paz**, capital city of Bolivia. Please find more details of the itinerary at the end of this description.

We will depart from the city center towards the Huayna Potosí base camp. Then we will climb to high camp where we will find the hut.

Summit attack and descent on our skis to high camp. After that, we will keep skiing down until we get our transport. Return to the city of La Paz.

**Do you want to enjoy the Bolivian snow and ascend a mythical peak? During this ski touring trip we will ascend different peaks in Cordillera Real, culminating with Huayna Potosi.** 

Acclimatization is very important for this trip, as we will be in high altitudes and we want to enjoy the ascents. Therefore, our first adventure will be the trek to Muela del Diablo. Muela del Diablo is a small peak with a shape that resembles a molar.  It's a rather easy trek, near the city of La Paz, perfect to start getting acclimatized.

Then we will transfer to Janq'u Uyu for an ascent ski touring followed by a beautiful and long descent. This peak rises to 5520 meters. It's a unique destination in Cordillera Real, not very well known.

After returning to La Paz, we finally set for the ascent of Huayna Potosi. Its impressive 6088 meters are definitely a challenge, but we will be well prepared! Although this mountain is very famous and popular for climbers, few people do this ascent ski touring. From its summit we will marvel at the views over La Paz, the Altiplano and the Cordillera Real.

Join me on this unforgettable 2-day ski touring trip and we will experience a truly special and unique adventure, as we scale the summit of the towering and beautiful Huayna Potosi, near La Paz, Bolivia, and then descend from the summit on skis, **winding our way across crevassed sections whilst also taking in the stunning and captivating views on offer.**

Located just 25km North of the Bolivian capital city of La Paz, Huayna Potosi is **one of the most popular mountains to visit in the country**, as the sweeping panoramic views from the top are absolutely magnificent, with the vast open valleys below stretching out in to the horizon.

We meet in La Paz on the first day, where we dispense all relevant safety and equipment information, and then drive for an hour and a half to a point approximately 4800m up the mountain.

We then continue up to where we will set up camp for the night, the 5270m high “Casa de Guias”.

We set off early the next morning to climb the remaining 800m to the summit, utilizing our equipment such as skins and crampons, and it is from here that the funnest part of the trip starts, as we **strap on our skis and begin the descent down the slopes.**

Along the way we will encounter some gorgeous and exquisite landscape, terrain and scenery, as **the clouds will literally be beneath us as we traipse and travail our way down the pristine, untouched powder** while breathing in the fresh and crisp Andean air.

The activity finishes on the afternoon of the second day, as we drive back to La Paz from the mountain, hopefully having given you a thrilling and memorable experience and increased your love for this special region.

Why not enjoying a perfect Bolivian snow together? This ski touring expedition will bring us to the 6088 meters of the **Huayna Potosi**.

This trip consists of a week of climbing different summits to get acclimatized. Finally, the week ends with the ascent of the Huayna Potosi, which is located 100 km away from La Paz.

Close from La Paz, Huayna Potosi is very famous among climbers but there are few people that try the opportunity to climb it ski touring. With 55-60º slopes during the last 200 m, you will challenge yourself and finally enjoy a beautiful view on **La Paz**, the **Altiplano** and the full **Cordillera Real**.

The ascent of Huayna Potosi in itself requires 2 days. I propose to you the following program for these last 2 days of the week.

**Day 1 at Huayna Potosi**  
Transfer from La Paz in private vehicle to Casa Blanca refuge (4750 m). Climb to Campo de Rocas (5130 m). Peaceful climb up to the moraine and then a bit more steep on the rocks. We finish the day at the Refuge.

**Day 2 at Huayna Potosi**  
Departure in the night. Quiet climb up to Argentine camp (5450m). Climb of an ice wall that brings us to the upper plateau. Peaceful climb up the final slope. This last part is a narrow and vertiginous ridge to the summit.  
Total climbing duration on day 2 is about 6-8 hours.  
Finally the pure joy with a ski descent from 6088 to 4900 m.
