### **There are a number of great back country ski touring locations that can be enjoy in New Zealand during the winter season. And, on this full day trip, I would like to guide you through one of the best of those spots: Wanaka.**

Throughout **Wanaka**, there are some truly fantastic locations to ski tour. Those locations include the **Remarkables and Treble Cone**. Each one of those places will provide you with some great slopes and descents. They will also provide you with some truly beautiful areas to admire for their natural surroundings.

Throughout this trip, you will get to ski on some magical untouched powder throughout the vast area’s collection of back country routes.

Due to the sheer amount of available terrain, there are places for everybody. As a result, this trip is **open to skiers of all levels**. However, it is important that participants are in **good physical condition**.

There is some fantastic back-country skiing to be enjoyed in **Queenstown, New Zealand**. Some of the options include The Remarkables, Cardrona, and Soho Basin Terrain. We will choose the right spot for you based on your skill level, weather and snow conditions and your own personal preferences.

On the morning of day 1 we will meet and do a gear check, and the head out to the mountains for 2 days of thrilling backcountry skiing.

Along with the great skiing there are also incredible views to be enjoyed throughout **Queenstown** as well. You will get to marvel at **Mount Cook (3,724m), Mount Aspiring (3,033m), Mount Earnslaw (2,830m)** and the beautiful valleys of **Central Otago**, along with much more. Hence making this day long trip not just about the skiing, but exploring one of the most naturally beautiful regions in **New Zealand**.

To participate on this trip, you should be an already strong, **minimum intermediate level skier**. You should also be in **good physical condition** as well.

The **Remarkables** is one of those ski areas that absolutely lives up to its name because the experience you will have there is nothing short of remarkable.

Located in **Otago**, **New Zealand,** the **Remarkables skiing area** is a gorgeous place chalk full of fantastic ski runs. And when it comes to the area’s backcountry, the vast and sensational scenery will blow your mind. This area will provide you with a number of different runs that are ideal for people of all backcountry skiing levels.

On the morning of the first day we will do a gear check, and then head out to the mountains.

Throughout this trip, our guides will take you to the best areas based on several factors. Those factors include **weather conditions, snow conditions, your skill level and your personal preferences**. And in the end, we have no doubt you will have a memorable and thrilling experience in the mountains of **New Zealand**.

In order to participate on this trip, you should have **prior skiing experience**. You should also be in **good physical condition**.

This ski touring program in New Zealand’s Southern Alps is a great way to discover these beautiful mountains!

Ski giant glaciers and alpine peaks with our ski touring programs in **Westland, Mt Cook and Aspiring National Parks**. We will choose the destination depending on snow and weather conditions and you can choose the length of your trip.

We’ll also use the tour as an opportunity to **improve your ski touring skills**. You can tell us what you’d like to work on!

On day 1, we’ll meet at our office in Wanaka, where we’ll present you with an itinerary for our trip. You can also rent your equipment here if you need to.

Then, **we’ll drive to the start of our trip (1 to 3 hours, depending on the destination you chose: Westland, Mount Cook or Aspiring National Park).** From there, we’ll board the plane or helicopter and fly deep into the mountains!

We’ll choose the best itinerary for you depending on your ski abilities and snow and weather conditions. We’ll be skiing on glaciers while taking advantage of our time together to work on different aspects of you ski mountaineering techniques. In the evening, we’ll share a meal and talk about the day’s adventures with fellow skiers in cozy mountain huts. And then, on the last day, we’ll ski back down to lower elevation and, once there, fly back to the car.

We decide between Westland, Mt Cook and Aspiring National Parks depending on conditions. **Each of them offers stunning views of the surrounding area and an amazingly varied selection of bowls, glaciers and peaks to explore.** 

You can either come by yourself or bring a group along with you. We have a standard 6-day program but you can also choose to add days if you’ve got the availability (up to 10 days).

Backcountry skiing program in New Zealand’s Southern Alps

Join us for a **beginner’s backcountry ski adventure in New Zealand’s South Island**! It will be a great learning opportunity for all of you new to the sport of **backcountry skiing** as well as the slopes of New Zealand’s **Pisa Range** and **Queenstown**.

**The Pisa Range and Queenstown** are home to some great ski slopes, all of which you get to explore on our **3-day** trip! We will spend our first day making sure to teach you all of the **beginner’s basics of backcountry skiing such as safety procedures and techniques** to ensure that you have a good foundational understanding of the sport. With place great emphasis on strong training because we believe that only with this information will you be able to enjoy every minute spent on the mountains!

After spending a night in our **accommodation**, we will enjoy a leisurely breakfast before doing **a ski tour to the summit of Mt Pisa (1,963 meters).** From the summit, we offer **various options** for skiing back down, depending on your level of comfort with the sport. If you feel intrepid, you can take the s**teeper descent going towards Cromwell in the east side of the mountain**. Should you prefer a less steep slope, there are **descending routes headed west towards Cardona and Mt Aspiring**. And once everyone completes their day on the hill, we all get to cozy back up in our **accommodation** for the evening.

Our **final day** will be spent rising very early to enjoy some final trips on the mountain. After enjoying some **lunch,** we will **transport** **you back to the original meeting location.**

This **3-day trip** is designed for those **new to backcountry skiing** and we, therefore, take great care of you, covering all of your **meals, transportation, group equipment** and **accommodation.** It is asked that you provide your own **personal equipment** but you have the **option of renting such items from our offices in advance**. Finally, we ask that your **personal level of fitness is strong**, and that you feel **confident as an intermediate on-piste skier** in order to enjoy and excel in the backcountry.

**Meet at our office in Wanaka** (address listed below) at **9 a.m.** **Transportation from our office to the ski range will be provided.** We will spend the rest of the day doing a bit of training and skiing before retiring to our **accommodation** for the night.

Day 1

On Day 2, we will **ski from the summit of Mt Pisa (1,963 meters)** and you will be provided with different incline options, thereafter.

Day 2

On our final day we wake up bright and early for one or two ski sessions. After having lunch, **transportation will be provided** out of the ski range to the Snow Farm resort.

3-day Beginner Backcountry Ski Touring Trip based in the Pisa Range

Tucked in between Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea is some of the best off-piste skiing available on New Zealand’s South Island!

Join us for three amazing days of ski touring as we check out various scenic spots in the McKerrow Range. We will take a helicopter from the town of Wanaka out into the wilderness to the north in order to get some isolated slopes and a more backcountry feel to our trip.

Every run we will make is framed by gorgeous views out over the surrounding snow-capped peaks and deep blue lakes. Spending three days out here will allow us to check out various different parts of the range and give us access to various different types of runs.

At the end of each day, we will head back to our base camp at the Geo Dome camp, which allows us to enjoy the mountains in modest comfort and provides us with yet another unique perspective of this beautiful place.
