**Choosing the Pyrenees for a ski touring trip is an interesting alternative for those skiers who prefer to avoid the crowds of the Alps. Its Panticosa-Vignemale is an amazing high route for hut-to-hut ski touring**. In this 5-day tour you can explore this area under expert guidance.

**The Pyrenees is a range of mountains forming a natural border between Spain and France.** It reaches a height of 3,404 metres at the peak of Aneto and extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the Bay of Biscay.

We will start from Panticosa, located in the province of Huesca, Aragon, Spain. **Every day we will climb to different summits. After a short rest and a light lunch, we’ll ski down on untracked powder slopes**. By the end of the day, we will eat and rest in warm and charming huts of the area, surrounded by a wonderful natural scenery. .

**The Pyrenees offer a huge terrain for the ski tourer**, with hundreds of peaks and excellent snow conditions. In this trip we’ll trace magnificent mountain skiing tracks around Serrato (2,800m), Tebarray (2,900m), La Gran Facha (3,006m), and Col des Mulets (2,590m).

Away from the crowds, we will ski having views of wonderful lakes, valleys, forests, granitic rock spurs and steep peaks. **Here it will be easy to find ourselves in complete loneliness enjoying some unique natural landscapes.**

Start from Balneario de Panticosa, in the Spanish Pyrenees (1,600m) towards the hut “Lagos de Bachimaña” (2,100 m). Walk to Peak of Serrato (2,800m) for ski descents. Night at the hut.

5-day ski touring program in the Pyrenees

Join me for an unforgettable **5-day ski tour** in one of the wildest spots of the Pyrenees. We’ll trace magnificent mountain skiing tracks between Panticosa and Vignemale. By the end of the day we’ll rest in one of the several comfortable and modern mountain huts in the area.

The **Panticosa-Vignamale Haute Route** has nothing to envy to any of the famous routes of the Alps. Moreover, it is easy to find ourselves in complete loneliness during much of the trip.

Our starting and ending point will be the Panticosa Thermal Baths located at 1635 meters of altitude. Here we will spend the night in the “Casa de Piedra” Refuge, where we will have our equipment checked for our ski traverse.

As for the level required, please keep in mind that they will be **5 days of demanding physical effort**. Although the Panticosa-Vignemale region offers a wide variety of options, our itinerary will depend on your technical level and weather conditions. At the end of this description you can check out the day-by-day program.

We leave the “Casa de Piedra” hut towards the Bachimaña Hut. There we will make a brief stop and we will then cross for the icy and blue Bachimaña Glacial Lake, until the “Collado del Infierno”. From here (if the team feels good) we will ascend the Tebarray Peak (2916m) and descend towards the Respumoso Refuge (2208m) by the “Collado de Tebarray”.

We will depart from Respumoso in direction towards the “Collado de la Facha”. From here we will ascend to Punta Aragón (2918m) and we’ll descend in a magnificent skiing down to the Walon Hut (1800m) on the French slope.

From Wallon we will head towards the “Collado de Arratille” (2528m). To our left we’ll have the Pico Alofonse Meillon of 2930 meters of height. If our energies and climatic conditions are good we can ski on its west face. From Collado de Arratil we’ll cross the Ara valley to the “Collado de los Mulos” (2594m) and then descend to the Oulettes de Gaube Hut (2150m), at the foot of the impressive Vignemale’s north face.

Today we will make the Oulettes – Vignemale – Oulettes circuit. We’ll ascend to the Pique Long del Vignemale (3298m) and then descend to the hut. Stunning mountain and magnificent skiing!

We will ascend again to Collado de los Mulos and then descend through the Ara valley until we turn west to ascend Collado de Letrero. From here we will head to the “Dientes de Batanes” and we will descend directly to the thermal baths of Panticosa in one of the best ski runs of the Pyrenees.

The **Vignemale** is a mountain shared by Spain and France and the highest peak in the French Pyrenees. It offers one of the best skiing tracks of the region. It is a very alpine summit and hosts one of the largest glaciers in the Pyrenees: the **Ossoué glacier**. The ascent to this glacier is done looking onto the peaks that crown the **Cirque de Gavarnie**. As you can imagine, this itinerary has spectacular views.

This elegant **3-day ski touring traverse** I offer starts at the thermal baths of Panticosa, on the Spanish side (in Huesca). Along the route to the Vignemale, we will cross the best powder terrains and ski on incredible runs.

If you want to join the adventure, keep in mind that it is necessary to **have previous experience** in backcountry skiing, medium-to-high knowledge in ski descents and a good physical shape.

Approach to the Oulettes de Gaube Hut from Panticosa. Then, we will ascend to the Puerto de Bacías and we will go up the Ara Valley to the Collado de Oulettes, from where we will have a great descent with views to the North face of the Vignemale. Night at the Oulettes refuge.

Ascent to the Vignemale by the Hourquette d’Ossoué. It will be a great day of skiing in which we will get the summit, passing through the Baysellance hut, the Ossoué Glacier and the final climb to the summit. The descent is one of the best ones in the Pyrenees. Night at the Oulettes refuge.

Return to Panticosa. Another day of skiing with good descents, especially the last one to the thermal baths. Night at the Casa de Piedra refuge or in a hotel.

Our starting point will be in the Sarra Reservoir, in Sallent de Gállego (Huesca). From there, we will enter the high mountain area through the **Collado de Los Musales**, which will give us access to another world: the Tena Valley Haute Route.

Depending on the weather conditions we will ascend one of the two peaks and descend again to the Oulettes Hut.

Crossing to the comfortable refuge of Bachimaña, already in the Panticosa circus, crowned by the Picos del Infierno and the Garmo Negro.
