Rafael est né à Quito et a grandi dans la région andine. Depuis son enfance, il aime faire des randonnées et escalader les montagnes.

Dans les années 80, il a participé à des expéditions au Pérou, en Bolivie et en Amérique du Sud. Dans les Alpes et les Pyrénées et aussi dans le Pamir Pick Communisme de 7500mts.
Dans les années 90, il a été le fondateur de l'Ecole de Guides ASEGUIM, Président pendant 7 ans de l'Association des Guides et a promu et formé le groupe de sauvetage en montagne GRA.

Il a obtenu le diplôme de guide de montagne et de moniteur de guides à l'ENSA de Chamonix-France.

Depuis 2000, il a conseillé, formé et participé à 16 expéditions dans le monde entier : Alaska, Aconcagua, Alpes, Pyrénées, Cordillera Blanca. Il a également formé et conseillé des alpinistes équatoriens qui ont réussi à faire les 14 huit mille sans oxygène auxiliaire, les 7 plus hauts sommets du monde et les Big Walls. Depuis 2001, il a lancé son programme d'aventure qui fonctionne avec succès jusqu'à aujourd'hui sous le nom de CLIM BIKE HIKE.

Depuis 2010, il s'entraîne et participe au projet EVEREST sans oxygène auxiliaire en une journée. Il a gravi l'EVEREST 2 fois, et il a atteint les sommets de : Manaslu, Shisha Pangma, Aconcagua 7 fois, Denali 5 fois et les sommets des Alpes Materhorn, Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, Agille. Vert, Zugs Pitze entre autres.

Au cours de ses 27 années d'expérience en tant que guide de montagne professionnel, Rafael a guidé plus de cinq cents fois le volcan Cotopaxi et plus de cent fois le Chimborazo, partageant avec ses clients la culture et les merveilleuses montagnes de l'Équateur.

Super trip of a lifetime, I conquered cotopaxi and chimborazo. A lot of hard work but an equally great acclimatization program from Rafael. Super man, with great knowledge on mountain subjects, always helpful and friendly. He was eager to tell us about nature and the towns we were in. Everything was organized very well, the hotels were of very good quality, the food very tasty, and the ascents into the mountains themselves safe under the supervision of a professional who watched over and helped. The organization was of a very high level. Safety always came first. Super people, I would gladly go again. I highly recommend, you can learn a lot from Rafael and experience a great adventure with great people.
