So soon as the snow begins its descent onto the Swiss slopes the mountain enthusiasts follow to the town of Verbier, a mecca for winter sports. With 410 kilometres of ski runs covering the 4 nearby valleys including Verbier there is an incredible abundance of slopes available. The region is also home to the Haut Val de Bagnes, the protected nature landscape is the second largest natural reserve in Switzerland. The nearby Mauvoisi arch dam is a strong candidate to explore, the highest dam in Europe at 250 meters. Its resting lakes and energetic steep waterfalls offer splendidly natural views.
Temperatures range from -2-7℃ in the winter months of January and February, with liberal fallings of snow. And temperatures will gradually increase in the months that follow. Nonetheless, the climate is mostly moderate with no excessive cold.

With such an abundance of quality slopes nearby, you could easily keep occupied on fresh slopes for a week. More broadly, at 41,285 square kilometres, Switzerland’s small size makes it very accessible to explore other areas of the country. Notably, the other renown Swiss skiing resort of Zermatt is just one and a half hours away.
From January until April is the prime time for alpine skiing conditions.
