More Info

The High Tatras and Carpathians run along Poland’s southern border and are home to the country’s top ice climbing spots. Zakopane, which site near the Slovakian border is usually where ice climbers head first. From here plenty of multi-pitch options are easily accessible.

There is climbing here that is easily accessible for climbers of every level. For intermediate and advanced climbers, heading out to Morse Oko mountain, the White Water Valley,  Dolina Wielicka, Dolina Białej Wody and Dolina Staroleśna are all especially popular options.

Not only is each one as beautiful as he last, but you have options for longer and shorter ascents as well as single-pitch, multi-pitch and goulottes climbing.

Good to Know

What’s the weather like?

During the winter, average daily temperatures in southern Poland are around -5ºC to about freezing. Temperatures feel colder when it is windy and go down as you increase elevation. Snow is not uncommon during this time of year, but there is still plenty of it at higher elevations.

How do I get there?

Any trip to Poland begins with a flight into the Kraków John Paul II International Airport, which offers direct flights from most major European cities. From here it is easy to take a bus or train south to where the High Tatras are. Zakopane would be your likely destination.
