The Apuseni Mountains of northwestern Romania are one of the country’s best kept secrets. How to get there:
Any trip to the Apuseni mountains begins with a flight into Avram Iancu International Airport Cluj (CLJ). From the airport, it is easy to transfer into the city centre, where most guides will opt to meet you prior to the start of the trip
Situated in northwestern Romania, just west of the city of Cluj-Napoca, the Apuseni Mountains present an excellent opportunity for a mountain biking weekend getaway or the perfect day-trip for those just passing by the city. Away from the aforementioned MTB trail and natural park, there are plenty of other great mountain biking options from which to choose. Sitting at the southeastern foot of the Carpathians, the Faget Forest offers plenty of trails for day-long rides as well as shorter options lasting only a couple of hours. The most popular option is to follow the 21-kilometer track through the evergreen forest and up to a scenic overlook, before returning to the trailhead. Another excellent option is to head to Marisel Resort and make the thrilling ride down out of the mountains and back into the valley below. It;’s sure to get the adrenaline pumping.
