The highest peak in **Iceland**, **Hvannadalshnúkur (2,110m)** is an amazing mountain that seems to loom even larger than it actually is. And during this **full day group trip**, you will have the chance to scale it right to the summit.

The ascent and descent of **Hvannadalshnúkur** will take the entire day, close to **15 total hours**. As a result, participants of this trip should be in **good physical condition**. The climb, while not requiring much mountaineering experience, still has some difficult spots, so care should be taken at all times. We will also see to it you are properly and safely guided every step of the way.

Once you reach the summit of this great **Icelandic peak**, you will get to enjoy a paralleled view of what will feel like the entire country! You will be able to gaze at the vast, frozen tundra, as well as admire several gorgeous glaciers, including the **Vatnajökull glacier.**

Since the trip will be taking place during the spring and summer months, the weather will be agreeable enough to make the climb. The dates of departure are **Tuesdays, Fridays** and **Saturdays.** Hence providing you with several options to choose from once you arrive in **Iceland**.

Hvannadalshnúkur, Iceland, Guided Group Ascent

Located on the north-western rim of the **Öræfajökull volcano**, **Hvannadalshnúkur** is the highest peak in Iceland (**2,100 meters**). Join us on this group hiking quest to reach its summit!

This exciting hike to the top of Hvannadalshnúkur consists of a **full day (about 15 hours) trek**. You’ll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the **Vatnajökull glacier** and vast sandy plains.

Hiking this peak is a once in a lifetime experience and we will be happy to guide you on this **challenging experience**. You won’t need any technical climbing skills, although you do need to be in **very good physical condition**!

Please note that **this expedition can only be done from April to June**, as later in the season the last part becomes a steep maze of crevasses that we are not able to cross with an acceptable margin of safety. Also, take into account that we can only take **from 2 to 6 people** on this ascent.

Apart from the guiding fee, the price includes the ice gear and safety equipment. You only have to bring warm clothing, rain gear, hiking boots, lunch and drinks. And lots of energy!

Hvannadalshnúkur, Iceland, Guided Hike (private)

Join us on this **6-day trip group climbing expedition in Iceland**. We will go up **3 progressive peaks**, finishing with **Hvannadalshnúkur**, the highest peak in the country. In between, we will enjoy the variety of landscapes of the South Coast of the island.

Starting from Reykjavik, we will start with an easy ascent of **Mt. Hengill** (805 m), from where we will appreciate the views of **Þingvellir National Park**. We will then move on to the very active \*\*Hekla volcano (\*\*1491 m). During this ascent we will go through rough lava and maybe even snow,before getting to the summit. The last objective of the trip is to climb the highest mountain in Iceland, **Hvannadalshnúkur**, at 2110 m. Located in Skaftafell National Park, raising above the huge glacier of **Vatnajökull**, this beautiful mountain is the ultimate challenge of this program.

Between ascents, we will enjoy the **breathtaking landscapes that surround Skaftafell and Landamannalaugar**. We will also have time to bathe in hot springs and discover Iceland’s distinct birdlife.

The trip starts and ends in Reykjavik, and is open to everyone above 16 years old and in optimal physical shape. Hiking time per day varies in between 4 and 14 hours. Climbing Hvannadalshnúkur requires using crampons and ropes for glacier traverse, and although it doesn’t require previous technical knowledge, the round trip takes 14 hours and is physically demanding.

Pick up from hotel in Reykjavik, and drive to Mt. Hengill, where we will go up the 805 meter Vorðuskeggi Peak, from where we will see Þingvellir Lake and even the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano. We will then complete the Golden Circle circuit visiting Geysir and Gullfoss waterfall. Night accommodation in Mt. Hekla mountain hut/hostel.

This climb will take us to the steaming crater of highly active Mt. Hekla volcano.

**Note:** It may happen that the civil authorities advise not to climb Hekla, due to its activity. If this happens, we will replace this ascent with a similar one for day 2.

Driving through the natural reserve of Fjallabak we will get to the amazing valley of Landmannalaugar. Here we have a couple of options, like taking a bath in a hot river, or hiking up to the blue peak of Bláhnúkur volcano. We then aim to our last destination, Vatnajökull National Park, in Skaftafell, where we will arrive driving through the canyon of Eldgjá.

Summiting Hvannadalshnúkur!

After the big physical challenge of day 4, we’ll have a resting day visiting a couple locations in the mind-blowing Skaftafell NP: Ingólfshöfði bird colony, and the glacier lagoon of Jökulsárlón, where the icebergs break off from Vatnajökull glacier and flow down through the lagoon all the way to the sea.

The route that goes along the south coast, which will take us back to the west, is one of the most scenic in the world. Just to name a few highlights, we will visit the iconic waterfall of Skógarfoss, and pass beneath Eyjafjallajökull, before arriving back to Reykjavik in the afternoon.
