The small strip of land holding back the waters of Bessvatnet from flowing into Gjende is truly a sight to behold. At times it is a matter of feet that stands between the two bodies of water. It’s not just the panoramic aesthetics that are of the highest caliber. The evocative wilderness extending beyond this rare natural masterpiece make Besseggen and the all-encompassing Jotunheimen an unforgettable experience.

This day hike in delivers you to an oft-photographed ridge, the Besseggen, where you will witness the miracle of a tiny sliver of rock containing the higher mountain water reservoir of Bessvatnet. Below, the waters of Gjende sit exposed, flowing further into the distance and establishing its own place on the stunning horizon.

The trek to the ridge is relatively simple, lasting roughly six to seven hours. The conditions are generally favorable with some moments of scrambling, so anyone with a passion for nature and a will to conquer this exciting hike is more than welcome to join.

With Gjende and Jotunheimen right here in my backyard, it's hard not to spend every waking hour outdoors.

Ever since I was a child, I have been drawn to the natural world. Years later, I still find myself standing in awe of the mountains of my native Norway. Regardless of the season, I work and play outside in the beautiful landscapes that surround me.

While I enjoy many outdoor sports and activities, I must say the mountain biking terrain here in Vågå is hard to beat.
