Description

The Aragonese Pyrenees in Bielsa, Spain, have scenic surroundings that include dramatic canyons, red and yellow stripes all along the limestone walls and amazing flora covering it all with shades of green.

That is why I think this is the perfect spot for beginners to start the exciting path of rock climbing. If you join this 1+ day trip, you will be able to learn how to climb a vertical wall and add a new skill to your adventurer résumé. You can also stay with me one more day and learn to lead a climb (help yourself with an elastic rope while climbing).

The incredible rock around Bielsa will be our lab for you to run your own experiment. I will be there to teach you basic rules and techniques and help you to achieve new goals in the activity.

Even though this is a trip for beginners, you need to have at least a fairly good physical condition to join.

Itinerary

Day 1: Climbing for beginners

We will learn all the basic skills for rock climbing.

Day 2: Learn how to lead a climb (optional)

We will spend the day learning how to lead climb (using an elastic rope to attach yourself and adjusting it periodically while you ascend). This day is optional.

Mountain Guide

Rock climbing and canyoning guide since 1995, with experience in teaching future rock climbing guides. She led the Spanish female alpinism team and now guides and teaches in the Pyrenees, where she lives.

As a pro climber, Buil has a stellar high-peaks resume with expeditions to places like Pakistan, the Andes, Greenland, Alaska and Patagonia, but is also a gifted big wall climber, having climbed El Capitan a dozen times and established landmark climbs on Mexico’s massive monolith El Gigante. She also specializes in ice climbing, having climbing and opened new routes in each continent. She is sponsored by Patagonia, Petzl, Boreal, Saint Lary and Huesca La Magia.
