Description

Join me in gorgeous Canada for a 4 day privately guided exploration of the Valley of the Ten Peaks, a highlight of Banff National Park near the Lake Louise resort area in the Canadian Rockies!

We will spend 4 days together exploring the mixed alpine terrain of the beautiful valley and the surrounding peaks, which range from Mount Perren at 10,010 ft (3,051 m) to Deltaform Mountain at 11,234 ft (3,424 m).  In fact, the glaciated valley is so stunning that it was once featured on the Canadian twenty dollar bill.  During this trip, we will enjoy breathtaking views of snowcapped glaciers and the crystal blue waters of Lake Louise as we combine the adventure of outdoor exploration with the peace and tranquility of the mountains.

The specific itinerary of each privately guided trip can be customized depending on the participants and the mountain conditions at the time.  While the options are endless, possibilities include: alpine ridge traverses, rock scrambles, or glacier tours. We can even attempt to ascend the Northern face of one of the impressive peaks of the region.  This program is suitable for intermediate level mountaineers, with decent physical fitness and some previous rock climbing experience required.

We will be based at the Neil Colgan hut during this program, which will serve as a convenient base from which to explore the surrounding valley.  The approach to and from to the hut will involve 5th class climbing over glaciated terrain.

Book this 4 day custom adventure now and we will enjoy some of the most stunning landscapes the Canadian Rockies have to offer as we explore the incredible mixed alpine terrain of the region!

FAQs

What experience and how fit do I need to be to climb this mountain? Is this program suitable for children or older people?

Moderate level of fitness. Some introductory rock climbing is helpful. You must be able to carry overnight pack for ~6hrs on inclined terrain with some easy rock climbing.

How far in advance should I start training and what kind of training do you suggest?

As far in advance as possible. Uphill hiking (or training) with weight in the backpack can be some of the best training for this kind of trip.

Will I need to bring any technical equipment of my own? Is it possible to rent equipment, and if so, what would be the approximate cost of that?

Ideally, you climb with your own equipment. If required, we can outfit you with all technical equipment (for free) and boots (small fee). Personal items, overnight gear etc. are required. All other technical equipment will be provided.

Will there be porters to help to carry group and personal equipment?

Available upon request.

How will accommodation and meals be handled on the mountain?

We'll be staying in the Neil Colgan hut operated by the ACC. Bunks, mattresses, stoves, fuel and kitchen equipment is located at the hut. Guide and guests will carry in food (mix of fresh and dehydrated) to the hut, where the guide will provide the cooking.

What happens in the event of bad weather?

Alternate plans will be made by the guide. Challenging weather is inherent to the mountain experience, but hardly ever stops us from completing alternate objectives. No refunds are available due to inclement weather. Refunds are only available if the guiding service cancels the trip entirely due to safety concerns or personal reasons. Please see next paragraph regarding trip cancellation/interruption insurance.

Are there any other special requirements such as permits/insurance/vaccines that we need to consider before the tour?

Emergency medical travel insurance is required and trip cancellation/interruption insurance is strongly recommended. No rescue insurance is required in the Canadian National Parks, but you are required to purchase a Park Pass for the duration of the trip to cover any potential rescue.

What is the guide-to-client ratio to climb this mountain?

The ratio for this objective is 1 guide to 2 guests. If you'd like to have a larger group on this objective, please inquire. We can bring on additional guides.

What is the best time of the year to climb this mountain?

June to September.

Can I join a group?

We only offer custom groups, but occasionally we will have a group looking for additional members. Please inquire.

Mountain Guide

Growing up in the rather flat country of the Netherlands, I never knew what I was missing till visiting the Canadian Rockies in my early 20s. We live in the small town of Exshaw, surrounded by tall limestone peaks. I'm a passionate alpine climber, working and recreating around Banff, Lake Louise and the Icefields Parkway. I'm certified as an apprentice Alpine Guide with the ACMG.

The Canadian Rockies are most known for their spectacular (and reliable!) ice and mixed climbing. Whether you're hoping to tick one of the hard classics or learn to swing an ice tool, we have it all!

Please contact me if you're interested in both a guided and educational mountain experience, in the Canadian Rockies and beyond!

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
