Description

Join me on this exhilarating ice climbing expedition in the breathtakingly beautiful Dolomites!

Our adventure begins after we meet for the orientation at the hotel in Füssen. Over the course of the next few days we will gradually incorporate different techniques and skills that will build up to the final ice-climbing experience on the last day of the course.

We will practice using crampons as well as axes and climb up a few icefalls of varying steepness. Depending on how well we progress, we might even try some vertical ice. We will also learn how to place and clean ice screws, how to prepare belay stances in ice, and how to pass an ice bulge. We will work on improving technique and you will practice your lead climbing and belaying skills. You can find a detailed day-by-day itinerary below.

This is a great opportunity to learn and practice ice-climbing skills in a unique winter environment—book now for this exhilarating ice-climbing adventure in the scenic Dolomites!

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

We will have the meeting point at 5 pm at our hotel in the valley, have an introduction talk, the equipment handover, and an introduction to various knots.

Day 2: First Climbing Day

Depending on the conditions in the Tannheimertal or on our way to the Hotel in South Tirol (Italy), we will have an introduction to using ice axes and crampons in easy terrain.

Day 3: Technique Improvement

The entire day will be dedicated to learning how to climb ice properly with varied techniques. At some stage, we will get into placing and “cleaning” ice screws, preparation of gear, building belay stances in ice for top rope, and rappelling. Then we will have a video analysis.

Day 4: Pseudo Lead Climbing

We will put into good practice what you have learned the days before and in addition, we will keep on working on climbing techniques: how to climb efficiently and economically, how to pass an ice bulge, how to traverse in ice, and to move a bit faster while climbing. We will also get into lead climbing, and will have a video analysis.

Day 5: Lead Climbing

We will warm up on top rope, get our confidence, and try to end the day when everyone is leading an icefall while placing screws.

Day 6: Multi-pitch Climb

Under the supervision of the guide, you are going to lead-climb all day long, while building rappel stances and being self-sufficient. The activity will end in the late afternoon.

What people are saying about Tal

Adrien

David est un super guide, il parle anglais mais parle bien français également, il est très expérimenté, peut-être que le rythme était un peu trop soutenu et pas suffisamment de pause pour des personnes débutante mais avec du recul je ne regrette rien, c'est une personne en or.

Li

Lukas is excellent 👌

Md

He was very rude and was constantly yelling at me on our descent. The trip could have been more enjoyable if he was supportive.

Ben

Cirine

Jurgen was a really great guide, lots of technical expertise and mountaineering experience. I never doubted his advice during the entire week. Additionally he was very friendly and kept everyone in great spirits.
