The Dolomite mountains are a beautiful range within the Alps of Italy. And the Val di Fassa area within them is equally stunning. And on this trip, you will have the chance to ice climb some of its frigid, frozen waterfalls.

Located in the Northeast tip of Trentino, the Val di Fassa is a painting come to life. And in the middle of winter, that painting is sparkling white. With snow everywhere, and a stillness felt in the air itself, there is an elegance to it. And while elegant may not be the word one would typically use to describe ice climbing, I humbly disagree. While ice climbing is both thrilling and challenging, there is also a peace, a tranquillity that comes with affixing yourself to a frozen waterfall, while slowly scaling it. I believe the same feeling exists with mountain climbing, as it shares the same liberating sensation of freedom.

With that said, if you are looking for both peace and excitement, this ice climbing adventure in the Val di Fassa can provide both. And when you combine those feelings with incredible ice falls like Fontanazzo and Rio Pelous you can’t go wrong.

The criteria for participation revolves around your own abilities. However, because there is such a wide array of potential ice falls to climb, there are easy ice cliffs for beginners and multi-pitch ice falls for  experts.

So come and enjoy a full day of amazing ice climbing in the serene Val di Fassa. It would be my pleasure to guide you to the top of any one of the petrified waterfalls. Please send me a request to book this trip if you are interested.

And if you would like to enjoy the Val di Fassa in the summer season, I can also guide you on this rock climbing expedition.

    About the Guide

I was born and raised in Campitello, in Val di Fassa. I am a ski instructor and mountain guide.
My parents have always practiced mountaineering, both for leisure and business, and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! Skiing and climbing were my favourite activities growing up.
As the years went by, I became more and more skilled and experienced under the watch of my father, both in techniques and safety measures. I learned the craft of mountain guide and ski instructor from him, since when his clients or students agreed, I would join them in the mountain.
But the true passion started when I moved to Tione for my studies.
I became ski instructor at 19 and mountain guide at 21.

Etienne was an outstanding guide. His knowledge of both the local terrain and ski mountaineering skills were outstanding. Route selection was appropriate for skill level and The originally planned trip had to be changed due to lack of snow and the weather of the day. The alternative was equal if not greater than the original plan. Etienne did a great job of adjusting the plan and making it a great day. Highly recommend.

This was our first time doing via ferrata and to be honest I was a bit worried as I\'ve never done something like this before. We\'ve been lead by Ethienne who was very knowledgeable, very kind and very helpful, sharing information and skills to help us do it the right way. The climb was steep, but they do different ones and I can honestly say this was one of the best things I have ever done! I would definately recommend this experience to anyone. We\'ve quickly realised on the day there was no way we could have done this on our own and the support and encouragement and knowledge sharing was everything we have hoped for!

Top of the world, literally!! We enjoyed our experience from start to end to say the least. Etienne was very personable, experienced and tailored our climb for the group. We felt safe and comfortable with our guide as he was a certified mountain guide and knows the Dolomites like the back of his hand. This was the highlight of our trip! Thank you!
