Description
There are a number of great routes people can take to the summit of the mammoth Kilimanjaro Mountain (5,895m) in Tanzania. And, on this 8-day adventure, we would like to guide you to the top of the highest mountain in Africa along the Shira Route.
Beginning near the Shira Ridge, the Shira Route is one of the lesser used trails on the mountain. As a result, there is far less traffic than on other, more popular routes like the Macheme Route. Furthermore, instead of mountain huts, along the Shira Route, you will be spending your nights in various camp areas. Thus giving you plenty of time to admire the stars in a way you’ve never seen them before.
Throughout this trip you will cross the entire Shira Plateau, west to east. You will then traverse underneath the Kilimanjaro Ice Field before we being the ascent.
The Shira Route, like all routes to the top of Kilimanjaro presents some difficulties. The biggest of those difficulties is the possibility of altitude sickness because the starting point of the trip is very high. As a result, any possibility to get acclimatized prior to this trip is recommended. However, if that isn’t possible, we will do our best to make things as secure and comfortable as we can.
While climbing Kilimanjaro is not a technically difficult climb, it is a very long and strenuous journey. As a result, all participants on this trip should be in good physical condition.

My Mountain Trekking Team, lead by Shem gave me a very plesant experience. And specially the porter Joshua gave me a nice stay in the Mountains. On the Technical part the guide was very competent as Well. However: My experience with explore-share, not the best. I came for the technical part. I asked if the technical part was doable at this time of year, they said yes, but it was not. Nobody does it at this time of the year and my climbingguide was very surprised that anyone booked at this time for the Technical part. You could just have told me: “wait a month”. But this was not the case. I pay so much Money Money and you can’t Even Write an email to the Company and ask about the conditions. I Think it’s completly unprofessionell!

Our guide, Shem, was absolutely fabulous. He was an absolute delight and a total joy to spend time with. His knowledge was extensive and his calm demeanour and quiet wisdom and dignity made us feel totally safe and secure. The team of chef and porters that Shem brought with him were also superstars. In June, 2009 I climbed Mount Kenya, with Trekking Mount Kenya. I spent 4 days on the mountain and experienced the wonderful challenge and the friendly helpfulness and knowledge of my guides and porters.
