Description

Let's discover the untouched beauty of Svaneti on horseback!

Svaneti, nestled in the northwestern corner of Georgia, is a crown jewel of untouched natural beauty. Deep valleys carved by glaciers and rivers snake between the mountains. Here, you can truly breathe in the fresh mountain air and experience the raw beauty of the Caucasus Mountains.

Our adventure begins in the historic Chuberi Valley at the entrance to the Enguri River Valley in upper Svaneti. This valley is intricately connected to the Nakra valley via the Utviri pass, providing a captivating journey through the rugged terrain - a stark contrast to the more crowded tourist areas.

Reach new heights as we conquer the iconic Utviri Pass, a remarkable highlight, featuring an alpine lake nestled right on the pass. As we journey through ancient forests and lush valleys towards Nakra, we will be treated to magnificent views of snowy peaks that define the Svaneti landscape, including Ushba, Lahili, and more.

Itinerary

Day 1: Riding in Chuberi Valley

In the early morning, at 8:00, we will depart for Zugdidi by train. Upon arrival, we will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before embarking on a 4x4 car journey to Chuberi Valley in Svaneti. We will spend the night at a local wooden cottage in Kvemo Marghi.

Day 2: Journey to the Village of Nakra

In the early morning, we will meet with our horses and team, prepare to ride, and set off towards Utviri pass via the dirt road. Along the way, we will traverse Zemo Marghi, journey through a dense pine forest, and reach the pass by midday. Following a lunch break, we will commence a descent of 13 kilometers, eventually arriving in the village of Nakra. We will spend the night at a local homestay.

Day 3: Upper Svaneti Tour

We start our expedition to discover the numerous small villages of upper Svaneti, which are spread across the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains. These villages boast ancient architectural wonders, such as small chapels embellished with frescoes dating back to the IX-XII centuries, and towers that have housed Machubis from different periods.

Day 4: Discover Ushba's waterfalls

The day's itinerary leads us along the old path over the Mezeri pass, offering a breathtaking view of the majestic Mount Usba from the front face. Following a brief break and photo session, we will descend to the lively Dolra river, cross it, and continue our journey upwards alongside the waterfalls.

Day 5: Descent to Mestia

This route provides a unique opportunity to approach Mt. Ushba closely. We will ride up to Guli pass (2930m) and then descend on foot to Koruldi lakes. After riding again, we will descend to Mestia, where we will spend the night at a guest house.

Day 6: End of Tour

Return to Zugdidi and travel back to Tbilisi via train.

Hiking Guide

Hiking and horseback riding guide.

I'm Georgian, native Tushetian. As a girl, I lived in the main wine region of Georgia – Kakheti, spent every summer in Tusheti – outstanding and authentic mountain region for its location, ethno-culture and nature. In 2014 I became certified sightseeing guide and started guiding all over Georgia. The more I travelled and learnt about Georgia’s rich cultural landscape, the more I grew to love my home country.

In 2017 I got certifications in trekking and in 2019 in horseback riding guiding. My main purpose is to use my experience in adventure tourism and offer unpopular, least crowded and still least popular activities such as agro tours, equestrian trekking and many others. My passion is to share the many undiscovered and unspoiled regions that make Georgia so special, adventurous and worth to discover.
