Day 1: Arrival in Tbilisi and Transfer to Kazbegi

The trip begins with airport pickup in Tbilisi, followed by a scenic transfer to Kazbegi along the Georgian Military Highway, one of the most beautiful mountain roads in the country.

Depending on arrival time, the group may stop in Saguramo for the wine experience and a traditional Georgian meal with the host family. Afterward, continue to Kazbegi, check in at Rooms Hotel Kazbegi, and enjoy a free evening surrounded by views of the Greater Caucasus.

Day 2: First Guided Trek in Kazbegi

After breakfast at the hotel, the guide selects the best trekking route for the day based on weather, trail conditions, and the group’s level.

Possible options include Truso Valley, Juta Valley and the Chaukhi Massif, or the Mkinvartsveri alpine zone. Guests enjoy a full-day guided hike with a picnic lunch on the trail before returning to Kazbegi in the late afternoon.

    Mkinvartsveri Alpine Zone

The Mkinvartsveri alpine zone offers one of the most impressive trekking experiences in Kazbegi. Starting above Stepantsminda, the route climbs toward the Gergeti Glacier area, with constant views of Mount Kazbegi rising to 5,054 meters.

The trail passes near Tsminda Sameba, also known as Gergeti Trinity Church, before continuing into higher alpine terrain. Depending on the route and conditions, the hike may reach approximately 3,000 meters.

Duration: Full day Elevation gain: Up to 1,200 m Difficulty: Moderate to challenging

    Truso Valley

Truso Valley is one of the most unique landscapes in the Greater Caucasus. This scenic trekking route follows an ancient trade corridor through wide open valleys, colorful mineral springs, travertine terraces, and historic ruins.

Along the way, guests pass the remains of Ketrisi village and its medieval stone watchtowers, making this route a beautiful combination of nature, history, and mountain culture.

Duration: Full day Distance: 12–16 km Difficulty: Moderate

    Juta Valley and Chaukhi Massif

Juta Valley is one of the most photogenic hiking areas in Georgia. Located beneath the sharp peaks of the Chaukhi Massif, this route offers alpine meadows, glacial streams, dramatic mountain views, and access to some of the most striking scenery in the Kazbegi region.

The Chaukhi Massif is often referred to as the “Georgian Dolomites” because of its rugged limestone towers and dramatic skyline. Depending on conditions and group level, the trek may continue toward Chaukhi Pass at 3,338 meters.

Duration: Full day Distance: 12–18 km Difficulty: Moderate to challenging

    Gveleti Waterfall

Gveleti Waterfall is a shorter and easier hiking option in the Dariali Gorge. The route leads through steep canyon scenery and pine forest to two beautiful waterfalls.

This trek is a great choice for a lighter day, a relaxed final morning, or groups looking for a less demanding route while still enjoying the mountain landscapes of Kazbegi.

Duration: Half day Distance: 4–6 km Difficulty: Easy to moderate

    Cultural Experiences

    Saguramo Wine Experience

Located between Tbilisi and Kazbegi, Saguramo is a perfect stop on either the arrival or departure day. Here, guests visit a family-run wine cellar for a private Georgian wine experience.

The host family has preserved a remarkable private collection of archaeological artifacts dating back to the Bronze Age, offering a rare insight into Georgia’s long cultural and mountain history. The visit combines local wine, traditional food, and family hospitality in an intimate setting.

    The Saguramo wine experience includes:

    • Homemade wine tasting in a traditional cellar
    • A full Georgian lunch or dinner with the host family
    • A private viewing of the family’s Bronze Age archaeological collection
    • One bottle of selected wine to take home

    Khinkali Masterclass

Khinkali is one of Georgia’s most famous traditional dishes and has deep roots in the mountain regions of the country. During this hands-on cooking class in Kazbegi, guests learn how to prepare, fold, and cook khinkali with local hosts.

After the class, the group sits down to enjoy the meal together, making this a warm and authentic introduction to Georgian mountain cuisine.

    Optional Horse Riding

Horse riding can be included as an afternoon activity or used to replace one trekking day. Routes are adapted to the group’s experience, interests, and weather conditions.

Possible riding areas include Arsha Valley, Sno Valley, the lower slopes around Stepantsminda, and the Mount Kuro foothills. Mountain-bred horses are provided.

In the evening, there is the option to join a khinkali masterclass with local hosts.

Day 3: Second Trekking Day or Optional Horse Riding

After breakfast, the group sets out for a second full-day trek in a different valley or mountain area. This allows guests to experience a new side of Kazbegi, with different landscapes, views, and trail conditions.

Depending on the group’s preferences, optional horse riding may also be arranged in the afternoon. The evening is free to relax at Rooms Hotel Kazbegi.

Day 4: Final Hike and Return to Tbilisi

On the final day, the group enjoys either a shorter morning trek or a relaxed start, depending on flight schedules.

Afterward, transfer back toward Tbilisi. If the Saguramo wine experience was not included on the arrival day, it can be arranged on the way back. The trip ends with airport drop-off in Tbilisi.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

    Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
